Dean of Discipline Job Description St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School Position Title: Dean of Discipline Reports To: Principal/Executive Dean for Student Affairs Classification: Full-Time, 12-Month Administrative Position Position Summary The Dean of Discipline serves as a visible, faith-centered leader responsible for promoting a safe, respectful, orderly, and Christ-centered school environment that reflects the mission and values of Catholic education. The Dean works collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents to foster student accountability, personal growth, restorative practices, and positive student conduct. The Dean of Discipline supports the spiritual, behavioral, and social development of students while upholding the policies, traditions, and expectations of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School. This individual helps cultivate a school culture rooted in Gospel values, mutual respect, personal responsibility, and the dignity of every person. Essential Responsibilities Student Discipline & Accountability

• Administer and uphold the school's Code of Conduct and disciplinary policies in a fair, consistent, and mission-driven manner.
• Address student behavioral concerns promptly and professionally.
• Utilize restorative and educational disciplinary practices that encourage student reflection, growth, and accountability.
• Conduct disciplinary meetings with students and parents as needed.
• Maintain accurate discipline records and documentation.
• Coordinate detention, disciplinary probation, suspensions, and related interventions.
• Work collaboratively with counselors, teachers, and parents to support student success.

School Culture & Student Formation

• Promote a positive Catholic school culture rooted in respect, responsibility, integrity, and compassion.
• Serve as a visible presence throughout the school day, including hallways, cafeteria, assemblies, liturgies, athletic events, and extracurricular activities.
• Encourage student leadership, character formation, and personal accountability.
• Support programs that foster student wellness, citizenship, and Christian conduct.
• Assist with student orientation programs and class-level initiatives.
• Coordinate Summer School Program

Attendance & Student Supervision

• Monitor and address attendance, tardiness, and truancy concerns.
• Assist in developing systems for student supervision before, during, and after school.
• Collaborate with security personnel and administration to ensure campus safety.
• Support emergency preparedness procedures and school safety protocols.

Faculty & Parent Collaboration

• Support faculty with classroom management and student behavioral concerns.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding disciplinary and attendance matters.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, moderators, coaches, and administrators to support student development.
• Participate in Administrative Council meetings and other school leadership initiatives.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation and review of student policies and procedures.
• Help coordinate student conduct expectations at school events, dances, assemblies, retreats, and extracurricular activities.
• Prepare reports and maintain confidentiality regarding student matters.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of successful educational experience, preferably in a Catholic or secondary school setting.
• Administrative or leadership experience preferred
• Practicing Catholic preferred, with a demonstrated commitment to the mission and philosophy of Catholic education.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, faculty, and staff.
• Experience with restorative discipline practices and student behavior management preferred.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment in sensitive situations.
• Proficiency with student information systems and educational technology platforms.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move throughout the school campus during the course of the school day.
• Ability to supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities and events.
• Availability for occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
