New York State (NYS) Certified Biology Teacher – Compass Program The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is seeking a passionate and dedicated New York State (NYS) Certified Biology Teacher to join our team in the Compass Program. The Compass Program serves students who benefit from a highly structured, supportive, and therapeutic educational environment designed to meet academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional practices, the ability to build positive relationships with students, and a commitment to differentiated instruction. This is a full‑time, 10‑month position and requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and a passion for teaching Science. Dual certification in Biology and Earth Science is preferred, but not required. Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging, standards‑aligned curriculum for students. Adapt instructional methods to meet diverse student needs. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents and guardians. Stay current with best practices in science education and integrate new strategies into lesson plans. Prepare students for the NYS Regents examination, including laboratory and fieldwork requirements. Implement differentiated lesson plans to meet diverse learning needs. Collaborate with staff, teaching assistants, counselors, and related service providers. Implement classroom management strategies that promote positive student behavior and engagement. Qualifications Must hold, or be eligible for New York State Certification in Biology. Experience working with students in alternative education settings preferred. Knowledge of curriculum, laboratory requirements, and assessment practices. Strong classroom management and relationship‑building skills. Experience with differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching practices preferred. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
