Job Title

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Neuro)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts | 18:45–07:15 | Expected 36–48 hours/week | Every other weekend required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 42-bed Med/Surg Neuro/Telemetry unit, primarily serving stroke patients as well as neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematoma, and other neurological diagnoses
• Monitor, interpret, and manage cardiac dysrhythmias via telemetry; perform IV starts and administer medications per protocol
• Utilize unit systems including EPIC, PYXIS, and SBAR for documentation and communication
• Float as needed to other Med/Surg and Telemetry areas within the facility, which may include COVID care units
• Adhere to a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio and maintain compliance with scheduling expectations, including making up any called-off shifts within the same week or at the end of the contract
• Wear navy scrubs per unit dress code; complete approximately 36 hours of unit orientation prior to independent practice

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Must have a minimum of 2 successfully completed travel contracts prior to applying — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Proficiency in IV insertion, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Med/Surg Neuro experience required
• Active BLS (BCLS) certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Local candidates are welcome to apply (note: a lower rate applies for candidates within 50 miles of the facility)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Active ACLS certification (preferred but not required)
• Prior experience in a neuro-focused or stroke unit setting
• Familiarity with Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) workflows or epilepsy patient care
