Equipment Operator I - Road Department

Government Grounds Maintenance WorkerThis is a full-time position with benefits. This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy and light equipment as a member of a crew that specializes in laying asphalt, grading operations, drainage construction/maintenance or other public works crew operations involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads and public properties. This position is subject to be included in the off-hours on-call response service.Major duties include but are not limited to:Asphalt Paving OperationsParticipates in asphalt paving operationsWork involves operating pickup trucks and various equipment commonly associated with asphalt paving operations, including but not limited to the following: pavement roller, skid steer, and power broomSignificant use of hand tools, such as pavement saw, shovel and asphalt lutesAsphalt roadway patchingFlags trafficInstalls and maintains traffic control devicesMaintains assigned equipment and toolsAssists in the construction, repair, and maintenance of road signsPerforms other related duties as assignedGrading and Maintenance OperationsWork involves operating pickup trucks and various equipment commonly associated with grading and maintenance projects, including but not limited to the following: hay blower, weedeaters, hydroseeder, soil and road base rollers, mowers, tractors with various implements, skid steer, power broomUses hand tools, such as shovels, chain saws, weed trimmers, cutoff saws, concrete saws and bush axeGrading, repair and maintenance projectsRoadside mowingAssists with the installation of storm drainpipes and culvertsFlags trafficInstalls and maintains traffic control devicesMaintains assigned equipment and toolsAssists in the construction, repair, and maintenance of road signsPerforms other related duties as assignedMowing OperationsOperates mowing tractors, including boom mowers, side mowers, batwing mowers, and bush hogsFlags trafficOperates chipper, chain saws, and pole sawsPerforms other related duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDAbility to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculationsSufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the positionPossession of a valid Class C driver's license issued by the State of GeorgiaPossession of GDOT approved traffic flagging certification within nine (9) months from the date of hire or promotionStarting Salary - $41,367.86To Apply - Fayette County, GA Fayette County Chamber of Commerce
