Insurance Defense Attorney

Position Summary: CURE Auto Insurance is a leading direct writer of auto insurance in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. We are seeking experienced Insurance Defense Attorneys with 5–10 years of relevant litigation experience to join our growing legal team. This role offers the opportunity to manage a diverse caseload, represent clients in complex insurance defense matters, and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing environment. The ideal candidate is licensed in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, or Wisconsin with the ability and willingness to obtain Michigan bar admission. Relocation bonus will be paid after the candidate has relocated within 40 miles of our Southfield, Michigan office. Essential Job Functions: Work as internal counsel in conjunction with claims to strategize, implement, and manage representation of CURE in PIP and Coverage litigation cases in both Forthright and the Superior Court, from inception to conclusion, by trial or dispositive hearing Evaluating and providing detailed analysis of assigned cases in accordance with CURE’s staff counsel policies and procedures, including trial and expense control Collaborate with CURE’s Claims Department to establish, communicate, and implement team litigation objectives and obtain prompt resolution of claims Preparing and responding to arbitration demands and/or pleadings and discovery Preparing and handling arbitration submissions and Rule 35 applications for dismissal in Forthright matters Planning, taking, and defending Examinations Under Oath (EUO) and depositions Attending Forthright arbitrations, motion hearings, arbitration hearings, and all other pre-trial matters Ability to prepare for and try cases Ability to draft and argue post-arbitration/trial motions and appeals in both Forthright and the Superior Court Negotiating high-level settlement agreements Experience/Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school Active bar admission in Ohio, Indiana, or Illinois 5–10 years of insurance defense litigation experience Ability to obtain Michigan bar admission within a reasonable timeframe Strong litigation, analytical, and negotiation skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Ability to think critically, analyze complex information, and problem solve with expedience Highly collaborative working style with demonstrated commitment to meeting individual and team goals Must be adaptable and computer savvy with an ability to navigate multiple systems Compensation & Incentives: Starting Salary Range: $130,000 – $150,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications Sign-On & Relocation Bonus: $20,000 total sign-on/relocation bonus $10,000 paid after 30 days of employment and relocation to the Southfield, Michigan office vicinity (within 40 miles) $10,000 paid upon successful admission to the Michigan Bar Performance Bonus and Flexible Schedule Incentive Opportunity We believe in rewarding results. Standard Schedule: We offer flexible work hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with options like 8–4, 8:30–4:30, or 9–5. We do our best to support individual preferences, though schedules may be adjusted as needed to ensure strong coverage and teamwork. We also offer a hybrid schedule: team members work onsite four days a week and can work remotely one day a week. At the conclusion of the employee’s 90-day orientation period, they will be eligible for additional performance-based incentives that include additional remote flexibility and a bonus structure.
