CLINICAL STAFF PHARMACIST I

Pharmacy Technician

Status: Full-time - 80/h per pay period - 9am-5:30pm Department: MVHN INFUSION CNTR PHARM

Facility: Miami Valley Hospital South

Certified pharmacy technician, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, engage in the following activities to the extent that the activities do not require the exercise of professional judgment:

• Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile
• Preparing and affixing labels
• Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory
• Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers
• Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
• Non-sterile drug compounding following the completion of site-specific training
• Sterile drug compounding following the completion of a site-specific training
• Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts

Essential Duties & Functions:

• Prepare medication doses prior to a pharmacist's review & dispensing
• Perform non-sterile and sterile medication compounding after required training
• Restock medications in automated dispensing cabinets
• Delivery of medications to patient care areas
• Monitor drug inventory levels to ensure a continuous supply of medications without stockpiling supplies
• Troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy
• Must be familiar with pharmacy software
• Must use aseptic technique, wear appropriate attire, and follow standards in aseptic compounding
• Must maintain clean and safe working environment

Qualification Education:

Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED Preferred educational qualifications: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a "Certified Pharmacy Technician" or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.

Knowledge/Skills:

Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills

• Able to read and write printed material in English
• Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred
• Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy. Must be familiar with pharmacy software
• Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member
• Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
