Position Title Custodian Job Category University Staff Employment Type Regular Job Profile Custodian Location & Schedule Whiteney Center, UW‑La Crosse campus. Monday through Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm. Weekend, night and/or holiday work may be required. Key Job Responsibilities Use basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables. Maintain clean and clear walkways free of debris, litter, snow, and ice. Document and report repairs, violations, and pest control needs. Maintain organization of supply areas and equipment, document inventory, and request additional supplies as needed. Monitor and secure facility interior and exterior entrances and report issues to appropriate entities. Required Qualifications Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to repeatedly push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, and climb ladders. Must work with hands and arms above shoulder level; requires considerable movement of the arms and twisting and bending of the back. Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges, including trash removal and snow/ice removal from entrances. Physical strength and flexibility to lift and pour 5‑gallon chemical containers, empty buckets, and remove garbage, trash, and recycling. Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for the duration of the shift. Observe and react to hazards and changing conditions in the work environment. Read work instructions, schedules, warning signs, and labels. Retain and carry out multiple work assignments. Knowledge of basic safety precautions, use of caustic and toxic chemicals, methods of lifting heavy objects, safe work clothing, and use of personal protective equipment. Operate cleaning equipment such as industrial vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, and electric floor buffers. Valid driver’s license and certification to drive a state vehicle (may be required for some positions). Preferred Qualifications Prior custodial experience. Experience with event set‑ups.
