Chief Strategy Officer

Description The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) will be responsible for formalizing and leading the development of the organization's strategic planning processes, fostering strategic partnerships, and special projects. In collaboration with the leadership team, the CSO will articulate and implement a strategic vision for the agency that focuses on effective growth; oversee implementation of the strategic plan in close coordination with the organizations strategic planning committees or workgroups, build new partnerships to grow and sustain the organization, manage special pilot projects. This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of key strategic initiatives, including internal organizational initiatives, as well as external policy and/or market-based objectives, including market analysis, managing strategic risks, and overseeing the implementation of strategic initiatives to drive long-term business success, often working closely with the COO and other senior leadership to align business objectives and priorities. CSO will collaborate with other executives to propose business development ideas and/or lead identified business development efforts. Additionally, CSO will identify, prepare application and provide support in grant funding for the organization.
Education and Experience: Minimum : Bachelor's degree in business administration, project management, public administration, or related field. At least five years of leadership experience in a nonprofit, for-profit, government, or philanthropy, working on growth, business development, strategy, planning, or related issues. Preferred : At least three years of project management, grant writing, and strategic planning preferred. Grant Writing certificates Experience working closely with community health centers on various issues including policy related to managed care, behavioral health, HRSA grants, and other critical CCHBC or CMHC issues. Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated experience in successful grant writing for public and private funds. Comprehensive working knowledge of organizational planning, organizational structure, budgeting, administrative operations, and fundraising. Demonstrated ability to analyze and compile complex data for planning purposes. Strong relationship builder with the ability to find common ground, build consensus and strengthen the collaboration among diverse stakeholders. Strong community awareness and astuteness. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact with, influence and communicate complex ideas to policy makers, executive leadership and other stakeholders in writing and via presentation. Proven business planning and management skills; capable of timely accomplishment of objectives with a focus on financial stability and health of the organization.
Strong understanding of healthcare industry standards and trends, healthcare delivery models, and healthcare policy landscape. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build consensus and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Financial acumen to understand financial implications of strategic decisions Expertise in change management to navigate organizational transformation Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex issues, develop innovative solutions, and drive results. Proven track record of success in strategic planning, business development, and revenue generation within the healthcare sector, preferably in a nonprofit setting. Key Roles & Responsibilities Strategic Planning:
Develop comprehensive strategic business plans aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and goals. Identify key opportunities for growth and innovation in healthcare service delivery.
Engage with key stakeholders, including donors, community leaders, government leaders, and partner organizations, to build relationships and garner support for organizational initiatives. Strategic Partnerships: Provide support under the direction of the COO to external organizations and committees. Work in collaboration with the COO and other executives to develop relationships and partnerships in GRAND service areas and potential new regions. Business Development:
Lead efforts to identify and cultivate strategic partnerships, collaborations, and alliances with healthcare providers, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
Negotiate agreements and contracts to support the expansion of programs and services. Market Analysis:
Conduct market research, evaluate and analyze market dynamics and trends, opportunities and threats, competitive landscapes, and opportunities for growth and differentiation.
Utilize data-driven insights to inform decision-making and resource allocation. Revenue Generation: In partnership with agency leadership, develop and execute strategies to diversify revenue streams; secure funding from grants, donors, and other sources; drive fundraising initiatives and cultivate relationships with philanthropic partners. Manage the reporting of grants and special projects Support fund development efforts by promoting and executing GRAND's fundraising efforts, proposal writing, and partnering with the COO and executive leadership to steward funding relationships. Program Development:
Collaborate with internal teams to design, develop, and launch new programs and initiatives that address unmet healthcare needs and advance the organization's mission. Oversee special pilot projects, including coordinating partners and managing staff when applicable to the project. Performance Monitoring:
Collaborate with internal teams to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor progress towards strategic objectives.
Analyze performance data to assess the effectiveness of strategies and make data-driven recommendations for optimization. Routinely evaluate current operations to ensure alignment with the company's vision Track key performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of strategic initiatives and make adjustments as needed.
Strategy Execution: Lead the implementation of strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment across departments and monitoring progress against the strategic plan.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential strategic risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
Play an active role in strengthening and maintaining the management and governance culture and practices that reflect the organization's core values, confidence, discipline, and professionalism. Communication and Alignment: Clearly communicate the strategic vision to all levels of the organization, ensuring buy-in and alignment with key stakeholders.
