Position Summary The Medical Lab Technologist, under the supervision of the Assistant Laboratory Director and Laboratory Director, performs laboratory tests and procedures as requested by the medical staff. Essential Job Duties Perform laboratory tests and procedures in hematology, coagulation, chemistry, blood gas, serology, blood bank, and microbiology. Maintain supply inventory for the section. Perform weekly and monthly maintenance on section analyzers. Assist in implementing new analyzers by running validations, attending training at the company’s training center, and training technicians on new tests and analyzers. Update and review section policies and procedures annually. Perform 6‑month correlations, calibration, and linearity of tests as necessary. Perform data review, generate reports, and complete staff annual competency. Review proficiency test results, investigate failed results, and provide education to staff. Call critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately according to established criteria. Prepare test reports legibly, initial and date own work, and review reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications. Run quality‑control tests, analyze data, and take corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits. Document instrument checks, preventive maintenance, routines, problems, and corrective actions taken. Provide in‑service training and instruction to other laboratory personnel and students. Assist in the development of educational programs that meet employee or student needs. Notify the section lead or Laboratory Director when supplies are low and manage receipt, inspection, and storage of supplies. Answer telephone calls from patients and outside providers regarding test information. Assist with bone marrow and body fluid collections and perform other duties as requested. Required Qualifications Two‑year Medical Laboratory Technician degree (equivalent) or four‑year Medical Technologist degree with MT AAB Certification recognized. ASCP certification or equivalent required or to be obtained within one year of hire. One or more years of related work experience preferred. Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required. Shift Information Shift: 3–12 hour shifts. Weekender: Friday–Sunday, 7 pm–7 am. Specialty Type and Sub Specialties Medical Laboratory.
