Overview Requisition #:666580 Location: Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD 21287 Category: Allied Health/Clinical Professional Schedule: Day Shift Employment Type: Casual / On Call The Cardiac Sonographer I performs an extensive range of cardiac ultrasound studies in the clinical and research settings at various locations. Examinations may include Transthoracic, Exercise, and Pharmacologic Stress Echocardiograms, special procedures including but not limited to echo-guided myocardial biopsies, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy studies, and additional procedures as dictated by research protocols and clinical trials. The Cardiac Sonographer I works closely with the Staff Sonographers, Level II and III, Medical Staff, and Investigators to ensure all exams are completed according to established policies and procedures. This position will also include clinical instructor responsibilities to the JHH Ultrasound students and Cardiology Fellows in the Echo Lab. Responsibilities Perform a wide range of cardiac ultrasound studies in clinical and research settings, including Transthoracic, Exercise, and Pharmacologic Stress Echocardiograms. Handle special procedures as dictated by research protocols and clinical trials (e.g., echo-guided myocardial biopsies, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy studies). Collaborate with Staff Sonographers (Level II and III), Medical Staff, and Investigators to ensure exams comply with policies and procedures. Fulfill clinical instructor duties for JHH Ultrasound students and Cardiology Fellows in the Echo Lab. Work the specified shifts and weekend requirements as described in the posting. Education Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) - accredited Diagnostic Ultrasound program required. Additional clinical experience or credentials may be considered in lieu of some education. Work Experience Successful completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Diagnostic Ultrasound program is required. Experience as a Cardiac Sonographer in a hospital-based environment or additional experience as a vascular technologist is desirable. Licensure/Certification Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI is required. Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) is preferred but not required. Knowledge/Skills Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and cardiac disease; medical terminology; and ultrasound physics related to image acquisition. Ability to document complete examinations and research protocols with advanced sonographic skills. Analytical ability to obtain appropriate images and measurements for diagnostic echocardiograms. Interpersonal and communication skills to guide and instruct interns, fellows, and attending physicians. Excellent eye/hand coordination and high visual acuity; ability to describe significant findings in a timely and comprehensive manner. Ability to perform a transthoracic echocardiogram within a 45-minute time slot in an outpatient setting. Salary Salary Range: Minimum 49.00/hour - Maximum 49.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. Salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls when applicable.
