This role focuses on joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding techniques. You will interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and schematics to determine the correct welding process, prepare materials and equipment, and inspect completed welds to ensure structural soundness and high-quality results. The position may involve working with both manual and robotic welding equipment and can include completing an apprenticeship or formal training in specialty welding areas as required.

Responsibilities

• Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials using MIG welding and other appropriate techniques.
• Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and shop drawings to determine the correct welding process and fabrication approach.
• Inspect completed welds to verify structural soundness, accuracy, and overall quality.
• Prepare materials for welding by cutting, fitting, grinding, and setting up jobs according to drawings and specifications.
• Set up and operate welding equipment and, when needed, robotic welding devices to complete assigned work.
• Perform fabrication tasks including fitting structures, grinding, and preparing assemblies for welding.
• Use hand tools such as hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, and banders to support welding and fabrication work.
• Use measuring tools including tape measures, box calipers, slide dial calipers, and micrometers to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Convert fractions to decimals and metric measurements to English units to ensure accurate fabrication and layout.
• Operate forklifts and cranes safely and maintain required equipment certifications.
• Set up and operate one or more processing machines related to steel manufacturing and fabrication.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in a steel manufacturing environment.
• Communicate effectively in conversational English to understand instructions and document work as needed.
• Complete apprenticeship and/or formal training in welding specialty areas if required for the role.

• Proficiency in MIG welding on steel, including the ability to pass and maintain MIG Welder certification.
• Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication diagrams.
• Experience with fabrication, job setup, fitting, structural work, and grinding in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
• Basic critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail to ensure accurate and high-quality work.
• Ability to operate forklifts and cranes and maintain certifications for required equipment.
• Proficiency in using common hand tools such as hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, and banders.
• Ability to use measuring tools including tape measures, box calipers, slide dial calipers, and micrometers.
• Ability to convert fractions to decimals and metric measurements to English units.
• Ability to produce consistent, high-quality welds and fabricated components.
• Ability to set up and operate one or more processing machines in a steel manufacturing environment.
• Ability to speak, write, and comprehend conversational English for workplace communication.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Relevant welding or fabrication experience in a steel manufacturing and fabrication environment.
• Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in welding or related specialty areas.
• Vocational or technical school training in welding, fabrication, or metalworking.
• Familiarity with robotic welding equipment and automated welding processes.
• Comfort working in a non-temperature-controlled industrial environment.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established procedures.
• Ability to work a structured first-shift schedule with potential overtime.

Work Environment

This position is based in a steel manufacturing and fabrication environment that is non-temperature controlled, with typical conditions of an active industrial shop. You will work on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break and two 10-minute breaks. When overtime is required, it is scheduled on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The role involves regular use of welding equipment, fabrication tools, hand tools, measuring devices, forklifts, cranes, and processing machines in a busy production setting, following established safety practices and procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Louisville, KY.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Louisville,KY.
