Assistant Professor of Psychology

The Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 16, 2027. We seek candidates whose work addresses enduring basic science questions of human behavior using cutting-edge methods, with expertise in social or developmental psychology and flexibility regarding the candidate's specific field of specialization within those areas. Successful candidates will build an externally funded and nationally recognized research program and excel as instructors and mentors, joining vibrant and engaged colleagues from a range of scholarly backgrounds who seek to study behavior across the lifespan, in social context, and in health and disease. This critical mass of expertise is well-situated to provide early-career mentorship and collaborative opportunities for scholars asking foundational questions.

Department faculty have access to the leading supercomputer center in the country (Texas Advanced Computing Center, TACC), the Children's Research Center with facilities adjacent to the Priscilla Pond Flawn Child and Family Laboratory, a Siemens Prisma 3T scanner, and rich collaborative opportunities with colleagues in Human Development and Family Sciences, School of Computing, Neuroscience, Sociology, and Dell Medical School, among other units. The Department recently launched a new college-wide major in Behavioral and Social Data Science (BSDS), the first undergraduate degree program in the country devoted to producing data-science-ready graduates with a solid understanding of human psychology.

Duties will include developing an independent sponsored research program, collaborating with other faculty from a wide range of backgrounds, mentoring and teaching graduate and undergraduate students, and serving the department, university, and profession.

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed all the requirements for the PhD by the time of appointment. Preferred qualifications include a record of research excellence demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, a clearly defined research agenda, and demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring excellence.
