We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the company’s accounting operations and provide dependable financial insight for business decision-making in Madison, Wisconsin. This role will oversee core financial activities, maintain accurate reporting, and support strong fiscal discipline across the organization. The ideal candidate brings a hands-on approach to accounting leadership, sound technical knowledge, and the ability to collaborate effectively with operational stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
• Direct the month-end and year-end closing cycle, ensuring financial results are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Manage the general ledger and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations to maintain reliable records.
• Produce monthly financial statements and management reports that clearly communicate business performance.
• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and daily cash activity.
• Build budgets, update forecasts, and perform financial analysis to support planning and operational decisions.
• Work closely with department and operational leaders to identify opportunities to improve margins and overall profitability.
• Refine accounting workflows and reinforce internal controls to promote accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
• Serve as the primary contact for external audits and assist with tax-related financial preparation.
• Maintain accurate financial reporting within QuickBooks and support a future accounting system transition as needed.• At least 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including leadership within finance operations.
• Demonstrated expertise in full-cycle accounting and completing timely month-end close activities.
• Strong knowledge of accrual-based accounting principles and established accounting practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience using QuickBooks for financial management and reporting.
• Ability to analyze financial results and translate data into practical business recommendations.
• Construction industry accounting experience is beneficial.
• CPA certification is preferred but not required.
