COMPANY VALUE STATEMENTSChoose Your AttitudeMake Someone's DayBe PresentHave FunPOSITION SUMMARYThe Workers' Compensation Underwriter is responsible for evaluating the Workers' Compensation risk of prospective and existing PEO client accounts, making sound underwriting decisions in accordance with DecisionHR's insurer guidelines, and ensuring that client classifications and premiums are accurately maintained across the current book of business. This role plays a critical part in protecting the financial health and compliance posture of DecisionHR's Risk Management function.Working with a high degree of independence and accountability, the Underwriter partners with Sales, field service, and internal departments to gather the information needed to support accurate risk evaluation, educates internal teams on underwriting requirements and classification systems, and maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal Workers' Compensation regulations. This is an individual contributor role reporting directly to the VP of Risk Management.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSNew Business UnderwritingReview PEO sales proposals to evaluate prospective clients' degree of Workers' Compensation risk; make accept or decline recommendations based on established underwriting guidelines and insurer requirements.Partner with Sales and field service teams to gather complete, accurate, and current information necessary to support sound underwriting decisions; communicate information needs clearly and follow through until all documentation is received.Rate satisfactory submissions for loss reserve, Workers' Compensation premium, administration cost, and SUTA cost to ensure submissions meet company profitability targets.Document all underwriting decisions, research, and supporting commentary in Salesforce; upload all relevant documentation that supports each acceptance or rejection decision in a complete and organized manner.Client Base Audits & Classification ManagementConduct periodic audits of the current client base to verify that both client and worksite employee classifications are accurate, current, and consistent with applicable underwriting guidelines and state classification systems.Ensure proper premium collection is maintained across all audited accounts; identify discrepancies and coordinate corrections with appropriate internal teams.Assist management in evaluating information to determine the suitability of continuing individual client relationships based on risk profile, loss history, and compliance with policy terms.Regulatory Compliance & Policy MaintenanceMaintain current knowledge of all applicable state and federal Workers' Compensation regulations, classification systems, rate filings, and compliance requirements.Update underwriting procedures, policies, internal communications, classifications, and rates as needed to maintain compliance with regulatory changes and insurer guidelines.Respond accurately and in a timely manner to information requests from clients, internal departments, PEO insurance and consulting vendors, and regulatory agencies.Reporting & Management SupportPrepare management reports that provide actionable information for business decision-making, including submissions pipeline, approval and declination trends, classification audits, and profitability analysis.Assist the VP of Risk Management in evaluating portfolio-level risk, identifying concentration or exposure trends, and supporting strategic decisions related to underwriting appetite and client mix.Sales & Field Service EducationEducate Sales Consultants and field service personnel on underwriting requirements, classification systems, and the type and quality of information needed to support underwriting and classification decisions.Coach internal teams on how to respond to client inquiries and regulatory requests related to Workers' Compensation classification and coverage to ensure accurate, consistent, and compliant communication.Serve as a knowledgeable resource for internal stakeholders on Workers' Compensation underwriting concepts, risk evaluation criteria, and PEO-specific coverage considerations.Follow company policies and procedures required to comply with applicable data privacy and confidentiality requirements, including but not limited to SOC controls and HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations.Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience will be considered.Minimum 3+ years of Property and Casualty insurance experience, with direct exposure to Workers' Compensation underwriting, classification, or rating.Working knowledge of Workers' Compensation classification systems, rate structures, loss reserve concepts, and state and federal regulatory requirements.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to evaluate risk, interpret loss data, and make sound, defensible underwriting decisions.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable conveying underwriting decisions and requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences.High attention to detail and accuracy; ability to manage multiple submissions and client accounts simultaneously.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM platform.PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEExperience in a PEO, HR outsourcing, or multi-client Workers' Compensation environment strongly preferred.Field loss control or claims examination experience is a significant plus.Professional certification in insurance or risk management (e.g., CPCU, AU, ARM) preferred or actively pursued.Familiarity with SUTA cost structures and multi-state Workers' Compensation compliance requirements.Experience preparing management reporting, risk analytics, or portfolio-level loss analysis. #J-18808-Ljbffr Priority Dispatch Corp.
