Field Instrumentation & EDM Electronics Specialist (Nuclear Projects)

Step into a field role where precision electronics meet nuclear operations

This 12+ month contract places you at the intersection of instrumentation & controls (I&C) and precision EDM manufacturing. Your journey begins with hands-on training in July 2026 at the Westinghouse Waltz Mill facility in Madison, PA. After training, you’ll deploy to nuclear sites across the country to execute critical work that keeps complex systems running safely and reliably.

A day in the life

You start by reviewing engineering drawings and test procedures, then head to the floor or the field. Some days you’ll program and run ZAP EDM sinker machines for ultra-precise work; others you’ll be calibrating sensors, troubleshooting PLC-based control circuits, or performing instrumentation tests with digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and vendor simulators. You’ll document your work, keep equipment logs current, and coordinate with engineering and production teams to support manufacturing operations without missing a beat. Safety and quality practices guide every step.

What you’ll handle

• Install, commission, calibrate, maintain, and repair I&C devices, PLCs, sensors, and automated control systems.
• Set up, operate, and program ZAP EDM sinker equipment for precision manufacturing tasks.
• Use oscilloscopes, DMMs, and supplier simulators for instrumentation testing and diagnostics.
• Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and engineering instructions; execute formal test procedures.
• Operate a broad range of electrical/electronic test equipment to verify performance and resolve issues.
• Apply robust quality, health, and safety practices on every assignment.
• Support generalized I&C field work and expand your capabilities through cross-training.
• Perform field cable installation in industrial environments.

What you bring

• Background in electronics—military training/experience (Electronics Technician, Avionics, or similar) is strongly preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience working with precision equipment.
• Experience with ZAP EDM or comparable sinker/wire EDM is a significant advantage.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience (required); 2+ years in a related role (preferred).

Tools and proficiencies

• Commercial/industrial electrical systems, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and diagnostics (including heavy equipment).
• Electrical panel builds and installations; equipment wiring and commissioning.
• Access control systems; equipment maintenance and repair.
• Reading electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• EDM Machine (Sinker) operation.

Compensation and benefits

• Estimated base pay: $50.00/hour to $55.00/hour, based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
