Job Description

Malone Healthcare is fast-tracking submissions for an experienced, high-performing Neuro/Stroke RN to join a fast-paced, Comprehensive Stroke Unit in Louisville, KY.

This is a high-acuity, 16-bed mixed acuity unit specializing in top-tier neurological care. The right candidate must be clinically independent, highly adaptable, and ready to hit the ground running alongside a supportive, multi-disciplinary team.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years required (3+ years highly preferred) in a dedicated Neuro, Stroke, or high-acuity Step-Down unit.
• First-Time Travelers: No. The facility requires previous travel experience for this role.
• Certifications: Must hold active BLS and NIHSS certifications at the time of submission.
• Core Skillsets Required:
  • Expert neuro assessment exams (NIH q4h).
  • Competency with Heparin and Argatroban drips ( Note: No titratable cardiac drips on this unit ).
  • Management of stable High-Flow nasal cannula and BiPAP.
  • Phlebotomy/lab collections, EKG rhythm analysis, port access, and NG/Dobhoff placement.

Unit Logistics & Scheduling Expectations

• Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:6 (Acuity-based staffing).
• Unit Support: CNAs on every shift, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, Vascular Access Team, and dedicated Rapid/Sepsis resource teams.
• The Reality: The Charge Nurse takes a full patient assignment—independence is key.
• Shift Details: 12-hour nights. Mandatory huddle at 7:00 PM (clock-in open at 6:53 PM).
• Rotations: Every other weekend required. No on-call demands.
• Floating: Required to float to other mixed acuity units based on hospital census.
• Scrub Color: Galaxy Blue (Traveler provided).
