Senior Accountant – AI & Accounting Innovation

Location: New York City – Union Square

Pay: $130,000 – $145,000 + performance bonus + employer-paid M/D/V

Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Hybrid - 3 days in office

Our team at The Recruiting Pros is conducting a search for a Senior Accountant on behalf of a fast-growing B2B payments fintech company. This is a brand-new, hands-on role that blends bookkeeping/accounting for small-business clients with helping the company shape the future of AI-powered accounting . As the Senior Accountant, you will support a portfolio of U.S.-based accounting partners and small-business clients on a modern cloud accounting platform — owning reconciliations, AP/AR, month-end close and financial reporting — while using and evaluating AI-powered tools to make that work faster, more accurate and more scalable. The right person will be technically credible enough to do the accounting work personally , and entrepreneurial enough to question the existing process, document what they learn, and help translate accounting workflows for engineering, business and senior leadership . This is a newly created position reflecting the company's continued growth, offering direct exposure to the CEO and other senior leaders and the chance to help build a new capability from the ground up. This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring three (3) days per week onsite at the company's Union Square office in New York City.

Routine responsibilities will require you to:

• Support day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of U.S.-based accounting partners and small-business clients on a modern cloud accounting platform, delivering accurate, reliable and timely work.
  
• Own hands-on bank and credit-card reconciliations, AP/AR, month-end close and financial reporting activities.
  
• Serve as a trusted, responsive and service-oriented point of contact for accountants and clients.
  
• Use AI-powered tools throughout the workflow to improve the speed, accuracy and quality of accounting work.
  
• Test and evaluate AI tools, identifying what works, what doesn't, and where the biggest opportunities for automation and efficiency are.
  
• Translate accounting workflows and client pain points for engineering, business and senior leadership teams.
  
• Document learnings, workflows and best practices so other bookkeepers can adopt and scale what you've built.
  
• Partner closely with senior leadership to help shape how the company delivers AI-powered bookkeeping services to U.S. small businesses.
  

Required education and experience:

• 4 – 6 years of hands-on accounting or bookkeeping experience for small businesses, ideally through an accounting firm, client accounting services practice or outsourced bookkeeping provider.
  
• Experience managing books or accounting work for multiple external clients rather than a single internal company.
  
• Strong command of reconciliations, AP/AR, month-end close and financial reporting.
  
• Solid understanding of U.S. bookkeeping practices and requirements.
  
• Genuine passion, curiosity and understanding of AI, automation and process improvement — including demonstrable experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to improve or automate workflows is a must.
  
• Familiarity with Xero or a comparable modern/cloud accounting platform is a plus; CPA credential is a plus.
  
• Startup, fintech or fast-growth environment experience is a plus.
  
• Highly independent and comfortable being the first person in a newly created role.
  
• Polished, confident and credible when working with senior executives, clients, engineers and business leaders.
  
• Strong written communication, process-documentation and client-service skills.
