Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides guidance to students on caseload with course selection and registration; academic requirements and policies; referrals to SFCC campus resources; career and transfer endeavors; and navigating relationships in personal, professional, and academic pursuits.
- Updates and maintains student records in SFCC systems including: caseload notes; academic referral management; maintaining degree audits; submitting transcript evaluation requests; and submitting course substitutions/waivers.
- Conducts regular outreach to ensure open communication and exchange of information, monitor academic progress, provide assistance and direction, bring attention to campus and community events and career opportunities.
- Collaborates with department chairs, program directors, and faculty to manage program admissions; evaluate transcripts; process course substitutions/waivers; respond to academic referrals; and review Petitions to Graduate.
- Coordinates with other SFCC stakeholders (faculty, staff, offices, etc.) and participates in relevant campus committees to ensure student success.
- Embodies a data-driven, best-practices approach to track student progress through key indicators of persistence, retention, and graduation and provides regular, consistent, and current data to supervisor.
- Attends SFCC community events, meetings, and special presentations to effectively communicate SFCC course and degree offerings and campus services.
- Participates in professional development and maintains awareness of current college trends, and academic advising theories, philosophies, and best practices.
- Knowledge of admission, registration, degree program requirements, academic standards, and degree audit systems.
- Knowledge of student recruitment, retention principles, and student advocacy practices.
- Knowledge of FERPA regulations, practices, and student records management.
- Knowledge of computers, student information systems, job-related software programs, and current professional standards, methods, and trends relevant to the field.
- Ability to provide academic advising and case management services in person or remotely as needed.
- Ability to prepare, maintain, and manage accurate records and reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and work independently or collaboratively.
- Ability to demonstrate professional knowledge and exercise sound judgment required to successfully perform in the field.
- Ability and desire to advocate for the best interests and success of students.
- Skill in academic advising and student support services.
- Skill in decision-making, problem-solving, critical thinking, and exercising quality judgment.
- Skill in interpersonal relations, customer service, and working effectively with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Bachelors degree
- One (1) year of relevant experience related to the major duties and responsibilities of this position.
- Experience with direct student interaction in a post-secondary setting.
- Masters degree
- Bilingual (Spanish/English).
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping.
- The employee may occasionally lift light to medium objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
- Typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work afterhours and/or weekends.
- This role may offer the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement in Santa Fe, New Mexico as determined by the Director of Advising, Career, Transfer, and International Services.
