Nursery Yard Labor & Driver

Join our team as a Nursery Yard Laborer & Driver and play a vital role in getting beautiful plants from our holding yard to landscapes across the Portland area. This is a full-time, physically demanding position at the heart of our operations. You’ll work primarily at our nursery holding yard and on the road, driving box trucks to pick up and deliver plant material across the Portland region. Physical labor and heavy lifting are a major component of this job — you must be comfortable regularly lifting 20–75 lbs and loading/unloading plant material by hand. More than 60% of your workday will involve active manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions. Hours are typically regular business hours throughout the busy season (March through December), with reduced hours in January and February during our slower winter season. Responsibilities and Duties Drive company box trucks to vendors and job sites to pick up and deliver plant material Load and unload plants by hand, securing loads carefully to prevent damage Deliver materials and equipment to other divisions, assisting with loading/unloading using safe lifting practices Holding Yard Care & Maintenance (25%) Maintain the nursery holding yard by weeding, picking up debris, and using cleanup equipment Perform plant maintenance including pruning, watering, and fertilizing to keep stock healthy Operate the irrigation system and troubleshoot basic issues to maintain proper moisture levels Material Check-In & Inventory (20%) Verify quantity and quality of incoming plant material against order lists Communicate shortages or quality concerns to Buyers via email, phone, or Monday.com Sort and organize plant material by job, label inventory, and pull material for delivery using strong attention to detail Other duties as assigned (5%) Required Qualifications 1–2 years of experience driving a company vehicle, cargo van, or box truck Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; ability to obtain and maintain a medical examiner’s certificate Demonstrated ability to perform heavy physical labor — you must be comfortable regularly lifting 20–75 lbs and occasionally lifting up to 100 lbs with team assistance Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including rain, wind, heat, and cold Basic computer skills (email, Excel, Monday.com) Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures Preferred Physical labor experience in landscaping, nursery, construction, roofing, or a similar field Bilingual (Spanish) Forklift experience Work Schedule and Environment Full-time position, regular business hours (schedule may vary early or late depending on route) Hours are reduced in January and February during our slower season Overtime may be required during peak workloads Work is performed primarily outdoors at the nursery holding yard and while driving Exposure to outdoor weather extremes, equipment noise, and occasional odors from bark, chemicals, and plant materials High-risk activities include operating box trucks and forklifts — safety is a top priority Weekend availability may be required, but doesn't happen often Benefits & Pay Range $19–$23 per hour, dependent upon experience Weekly paychecks Paid time off and holidays Comprehensive and affordable health insurance 401k with generous company match 40% employee discount on all plants and retail merchandise Partner discounts and employee store passes at Danner, Carhartt, Duluth Trading, Adidas, and Columbia Tuition reimbursement for ongoing education Opportunities for professional growth and advancement within the company Dennis’ 7 Dees is a family-owned and operated business with deep roots in the Portland area.
