TxDOT's Dallas County Area Office is looking for a Material/Process Inspector I located in the Dallas County Area Office. With more than $1.8B worth of active construction projects and more than $40M annual maintenance budget, we are looking for someone who is ready to help with our testing needs for our construction and maintenance projects. Title/Grade/Salary Material/Process Inspector I (B18): $45,521.00 - $71,055.00 yearly

Performs material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Essential Duties: Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement. Conducts pavement evaluations in the field. Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers. Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete. Keeps equipment mileage and service records and schedules equipment repairs. Maintains a diary of inspection or test details. Maintains and calibrates equipment. Maintains field record books for each construction project within assigned area office. Performs tests and inspection duties. Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement. Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems. Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing. Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs Works full-time at a geographically separated location.

Minimum Qualifications: Education : High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies. Experience : No experience required (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have or obtain certification in one of the listed HMA certifications within 12 months of date of hire: Hot Mix Asphalt Spec-IA Cert Hot Mix Asphalt Spec-IB Cert Hot Mix Asphalt Spec-II Cer Competencies: Giving attention to detail and reviewing information to identify any errors and problems; ensuring consistency and clarity of information Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry and geometry Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures Laboratory testing procedures and methodologies Nuclear gauge operation Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes Safely using, operating, and maintaining applicable equipment Conducting laboratory tests Calibrating equipment Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
