Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor and Delivery

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery to join our dynamic team. This position requires experience in high-risk environments and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care. The role involves working in a fast-paced, high-acuity unit dedicated to providing outstanding care for mothers and newborns.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform labor support and assist in deliveries as a Baby Nurse, providing care for the newborn until transfer to postpartum.
• Circulate in the operating room during deliveries, ensuring a safe and efficient environment.
• Provide essential newborn care, including administering Vitamin K injections and assessing newborns at delivery.
• Manage high-risk cases and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive maternal and newborn care.
• Float to postpartum and antepartum units as needed, supporting sister facilities when required.
• Maintain familiarity with electronic fetal monitoring and adhere to AWHONN guidelines.
• Support substance recovery efforts through community care and work with midwifery clients and private OBs as needed.

Qualifications

• Current nursing license with compact state eligibility.
• Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in Labor and Delivery, with a focus on high-risk patients.
• Experience in high-volume, fast-paced settings preferred.
• Certifications: Required - BLS, NRP; Preferred - ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate.

Schedule and Additional Information

• Night shift: 4x12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:30).
• Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
• Pre-approved time off will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
• Daily average census of 15 patients, with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
• Participate in a posted schedule developed every 6 weeks to meet unit needs.

Special Procedures/Unit Details

This unit consist of 31 rooms and is equipped to handle a variety of high-risk deliveries. Nurses are expected to demonstrate proficiency in specialized procedures including the administration of Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate. A strong emphasis is placed on adherence to safety protocols and effective patient management practices.
