About the Facility – Gallup Indian Medical Center The Gallup Indian Medical Center is a 99-bed hospital in Gallup, New Mexico, on the border of the Navajo Reservation. Clinical specialties at the GIMC include internal medicine, cardiology, anesthesia, OB/GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, radiology, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, and urology. The workload at Gallup is one of the largest in the Indian Health Service, with 250,000 outpatient encounters and 5800 inpatient admissions annually. GIMC is the largest staff of all the Navajo area facilities. Facility address: 1808 West Aztec Ave. Gallup NM 87301General Surgeon: ResponsibilitiesEstimated to be approximately 95% of the time involved in direct patient care.Shall be present in the operating suite for all General Surgery procedures.All cases will be discussed in morbidity and mortality conferences, and the surgeon will provide appropriate information for inclusion in departmental reports.Shall provide consultative services at the patient's bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and, in the clinic setting, if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic. Procedures shall be scheduled for completion within 30 days of the date of the consultation.Pre-Operative Note: In all cases of surgery, and if circumstances permit in cases of emergency surgery, the responsible staff shall enter a pre-operative progress note which provides documentation of the findings, diagnosis, plan of treatment, discussion of surgery with the patient, and choice of the specific procedure before it is performed. The pre-operative note may be completed up to 30 days prior and shall indicate the details of the case, what has been discussed, and that the planned surgical procedure has been approved.Operative report: This shall be documented immediately after the operation or procedure. It shall describe the procedure, operative findings, and condition of the patient.Operative procedures: Shall provide all General Surgical Services.
