Location 845 Main Road,Irving, NY, 14081,United States Base Pay $24.00 - $32.00 / Hour Employee Type Part Time Non-Exempt Job Summary: The Department of Plant Operations Maintenance Mechanic/Security personnel provide for the ongoing safety, security and operation of all main hospital and outlying clinic systems, utilities, facilities and equipment. Maintain all hospital and clinic properties through repair, preventative maintenance, groundskeeping and safety inspections in accordance with facility standards. Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities: The following statements reflect the duties considered necessary to describe the essential functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in this position. Primary Job Duties: (30 %) Mechanical. The Maintenance Mechanic/Security personnel is responsible for the day- to- day and preventative maintenance of all non-clinical Hospital equipment, utilities, facilities and building operations by, including, but not limited to: answering pages and work order requests in a timely manner, which is set forth by the parameters of the work order tracking system, and documenting activities in the work order program; holding accountability for one’s work order completion and times; ensuring heating/ventilation/air-compressors (HVAC) are in proper working order; engaging in preventative maintenance activities which follow recommended manufacturer requirements; assisting all outside vendors that come to the Hospital to perform services related to service contracts.

• 10%) Grounds keeping. Year round, the Maintenance Mechanic/Security personnel maintains the grounds surrounding the Hospital ensuring a safe and pleasant outdoor environment for all patients, visitors and staff by, including, but not limited to: shoveling, salting and plowing sidewalks and parking areas; cutting grass; trimming hedges/plants; raking; planting; collecting trash on the grounds and disposing of it properly.
• 10%) Special Projects. The Plant Operations department is responsible for appropriate special projects as assigned including, but not limited to: patching, sanding and painting areas of the building as needed; coordinating general touch up activities with departments that need minor work; doing l arger painting projects as scheduled; creating/changing office space to meet the changing needs of the facility.
• 10%) Service. The Maintenance Mechanic/Security personnel provides service excellence to patients, their family members and staff that meets or exceeds patient expectations by, including, but not limited to: responding to work requests in a timely manner; working well as part of a team with insight regarding the needs of others; completing assignments in such a manner that will create public good for the employees, patients and visitors; communicating in an open and cooperative manner, avoiding gossip and spreading rumors; avoiding the use of demeaning and derogatory language.
• 10%) Quality. The Maintenance Mechanic/Security personnel plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality of the Facility environment and engages in quality improvement initiatives by, including but not limited to: performing assignments with sustained initiative and drive while demonstrating good judgment and making good decisions through sound reasoning procedures and drawing correct conclusions based on available facts and conditions; taking initiative in recognizing process improvement opportunities and presenting them to the Director of Plant Operations; participating in continuing education on maintenance/security processes and protocol; participation in hospital- wide and specific work teams. ( 30%) Safety and Security. The Maintenance Mechanic/Security personnel ensures the safety of patients, visitors and staff and intervenes when incidents occur by, including, but not limited to: internal and external security rounds scheduled at various times to secure the facility and surrounding grounds; logging any occurrences out of the ordinary in an irregularity report to be given to the Director of Plant Operations; appropriately deescalating volatile situations within the Hospital and notifying local police if necessary; maintaining that all mechanical equipment, tools and supplies are properly secured for the protection of patients, general public and fellow employees; safely managing all chemicals and referencing SDS sheets for exposure

Educational Requirements: Required : High school diploma or GED. Preferred : Graduate of a trade school strongly preferred Licensure/Certification Registration Requirements: Required : Valid and unrestricted New York State Driver License. Required Experience: Required : Experience in basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing and carpentry required. Preferred : Advanced skills in building trades or construction preferred. Complexity of Work: Must conduct oneself in a professional and ethical manner; maintain good rapport with fellow workers, supervisors, administrations, nursing staff, patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel; must be relied upon to work independently and unsupervised exercising good judgment; verbal and written abilities are required to accept and comprehend orders; must complete tasks despite frequent interruptions. Population Served: Physical Requirements: Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting is required. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force is required frequently. Substantial movement of the wrists, hands and fingers is frequently required. Must be mechanically inclined with good hand/eye coordination. The degree of color, depth perception, and field of vision required for this position is that for use with those whose work deals with machines, devices and instruments where job is at or within arm’s reach. Typical Environmental Exposures: Personal Protective Equipment: Use of hand-washing techniques is required prior to and after contact with potentially contaminated equipment, biological/chemical materials or environmental surfaces. Annual flu vaccination or, alternatively, the use of surgical masks required to reduce the transmission of influenza. Safety glasses and hearing protection to be used in appropriate circumstances. Outwear to protect against the elements when working outside. Confidentiality/Privacy Requirements: Description of level of access, disclosure or handling of protected health information and confidential business information as an authorized aspect of the job.
