Position Summary
The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce high‑quality parts according to specifications. This role requires strong technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions. The machinist ensures parts meet quality, safety, and production standards while supporting continuous improvement across the machining department.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Setup
- Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or multi‑axis machines according to job requirements.
- Load programs, adjust offsets, and verify correct tooling and fixtures.
- Perform first‑piece inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy.
- Monitor machine performance and make real‑time corrections to maintain part quality.
Quality & Inspection
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T symbols, and engineering specifications.
- Use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators) to verify part dimensions.
- Document inspection results and maintain accurate production records.
- Identify and report nonconforming parts or process deviations.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and tool changes.
- Troubleshoot issues related to tooling, machine performance, or part quality.
- Work with maintenance or engineering teams to resolve mechanical or programming issues.
Production & Efficiency
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining high quality standards.
- Optimize machining processes to reduce cycle times and improve throughput.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Provide feedback on prints, tooling, and machining methods to support continuous improvement.
- Assist in training new machinists or operators as needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or apprenticeship preferred.
- 2–5 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with CNC mills, lathes, or multi‑axis equipment.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools.
- Familiarity with G‑code, M‑code, and CNC controls (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.).
- Basic understanding of tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining principles.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and time‑management skills.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and metalworking processes.
- Requires standing, lifting, and manual handling of materials.
- Use of PPE required.
