Nurse Practitioner - Infusion Department Full Time Day (37.5)

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center with specialized services, including a Cardiac Care Center, modern ambulatory surgical pavilion, trauma and stroke centers, and multiple outpatient sites. Position Summary Join our team as a Nurse Practitioner – Infusion Department Full Time Day (37.5). Nurse practitioners (NP) provide high‑quality, cost‑effective care as licensed independent practitioners, collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams. NPs may assist in surgery, trauma, and cardiac catheterizations as required. Job Responsibilities Introduce and identify yourself as an NP. Assist physicians with patient management focusing on quality care and timely discharge. Communicate professionally with physicians, consulting staff, case managers, nurses, and other hospital personnel regarding patient information. Perform initial and ongoing assessment, history, and physical examination. Assess and reassess patient condition and care plan. Order and interpret tests/results (lab, radiology, EKG, etc.) based on patient need. Order medications and treatments. Document care in the chart according to hospital policies and the Clinical Documentation Initiative. Formulate diagnoses and implement patient care and treatment plans. Discuss patient care plans, expectations, and needs with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other staff. Obtain consents for blood/blood product transfusion, imaging contrast, and procedures performed by the PA. Initiate consults, including hospice and palliative care, and participate in end‑of‑life discussions. Manage medical/surgical patient care, including emergencies requiring BLS/ACLS/PALS. Perform trauma assessments/reassessments following ATLS for Trauma Team members. Conduct peri‑ and intraoperative assessments and participate in surgery as needed. Round with physicians and other staff. Order, apply, reapplies, and remove restraints. Document all pertinent patient information, education, test results, and dispositions following departmental policies and CDI training. Write legibly; date, time, and sign all chart entries; use name stamp. Document communication with physicians and verify verbal/telephone orders by shift end. Complete billing forms by shift end. Complete discharge documentation and orders, including prescriptions and summaries. Technical Procedures Explain procedures to patient or family. Use sterile technique and barrier precautions when needed. Perform IV insertion, Foley catheter insertion, naso/orogastric tube insertion, central venous line removal, and other IV-based procedures. Provide suturing and wound care. Create and apply splints. Assist in surgery and cardiac catheterizations. Perform CT/MRI injections and other radiologic injections such as nuclear studies. Insert PICC lines and central venous lines; perform chest tube insertion. Remove chest tubes and drains. Assist radiologist with biopsies, drainage procedures, and other special procedures. Perform radiologic procedures such as paracentesis and thoracentesis. General Job Requirements Demonstrate positive customer service, effective time management, and strong communication skills. Adhere to hospital, departmental, and federal/state laws, rules, and regulations. Maintain knowledge of current trends by reading journals and attending seminars. Attend a minimum of 50% of departmental, medical staff, and Trauma Team meetings. Participate in performance assessment and improvement studies. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an NP educational program approved by the State of New York; current NP certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or the American Nurses Credentialing Center; Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees; current New York State license as registered nurse and NP; Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association. Required Licenses Registered Nurse License (NYS), Nurse Practitioner License (NYS), Basic Life Support certification. Preferred Qualifications Advanced Life Support certifications (ACLS, PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification through the American Academy of Pediatrics.
