Manufacturing Engineer

$140k - $170k

Geoship

Affordable, natural, factory-built homes. We've embarked on a homebuilding renaissance where affordability, sustainability, and beauty come together. Out beyond ideas of right angles and hard lines, there's a bioceramic dome. The Geodesic Dome, introduced by the Visionary Architect Buckminster Fuller, is the world's most efficient structure. But to manufacture domes, we needed a material science breakthrough. Enter bioceramics - a new class of earth-friendly materials that mimic human bone. Bioceramic domes maximize efficiency at the most fundamental levels - geometry, materials, and manufacturing method. In the future, we won't live in boxes. Join us there! Project After successfully building a prototype proof-of-concept dome, securing seed funding, and with our first flagship build underway, we are hiring key team members to help us with the next leg of the journey: developing novel manufacturing technology to scale our pilot production factory in Grass Valley, California. Role Geoship is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to help us design and develop our Pilot Production line, working from initial concept through to full production handoff. At the core, we are looking for a first-principles problem solver. The role includes collaborating with equipment suppliers, leading equipment commissioning and validation, and implementing lean manufacturing principles to drive process improvements. This position requires a proactive individual who thrives in a rapidly evolving startup environment and can contribute to the installation of manufactured parts in prototype builds. If you think outside the box, are passionate about building a more beautiful and regenerative world, and are excited to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, then Description Production Line Design: Develop and refine production line designs from concept to production, ensuring efficiency and scalability. Equipment Specification: Define and document equipment specifications; collaborate with suppliers to find cost-effective solutions that meet production requirements. Commissioning and Validation: Oversee the commissioning, validation, and qualification of manufacturing equipment, ensuring all systems operate correctly and meet performance standards. Lean Manufacturing: Implement lean manufacturing techniques to enhance process efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall productivity. Process Optimization: Analyze current manufacturing processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to enhance production efficiency and product quality. Quality Control: Develop and implement quality control measures to ensure the highest standards of product quality and consistency. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with design, engineering, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of new processes and equipment. Prototype Builds: Assist with the installation and integration of manufactured parts in the first round of prototype builds, ensuring functional and performance standards are met. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of processes, equipment specifications, and validation results; prepare reports on production performance and improvement initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field. 3 ~ 7 years of professional experience Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to identify and implement effective solutions. Experience in designing and implementing production lines. Proficiency in defining equipment specifications and managing validation processes. Expertise in lean manufacturing practices and process improvement methodologies. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams. Proven track record of managing projects and driving continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment. Proactive, driven, and capable of working independently in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment. Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies. Desired Experience Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past results. Takes risks, learns from mistakes, and drives to improve the performance of oneself, others, and the company. Experience in equipment and process controls, especially with PLCs. Familiarity with casting processes and design-for-manufacturing fundamentals. Familiarity with industrial mixing equipment and processes, including raw material conveyance. Material handling experience, with a focus on optimizing the movement, protection, storage, and control of materials throughout the manufacturing process. Base pay between $140,000 and $170,000, based on experience and qualifications. Comprehensive healthcare coverage.
