Shelter Support StaffTempe, AZ 85281OverviewSalary Range $20.00 - $20.00 Hourly Position Type Full-Time Job Shift Any Education Level High School Diploma/GED Travel Percentage Up to 25%DescriptionJOB PURPOSE:The Shelter Monitor is responsible for providing supportive services, logistical support, and direct supervision to residents within the Emergency Shelter Program during assigned shifts. This role ensures the safety, security, cleanliness, and overall operation of the shelter by monitoring resident activities, enforcing program rules and expectations, assisting with shelter setup and maintenance, and conducting neighborhood patrols. The Shelter Monitor delivers crisis intervention and trauma-informed care while taking reasonable and professional action to support residents, maintain a sanitary and secure environment, and uphold organizational policies and program guidelines.Essential Job Responsibilities:Maintain a safe, structured, and trauma-informed environment for clients while upholding professional boundaries at all times.Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, management, volunteers, and staff.Monitor shelter areas to ensure compliance with facility rules, policies, procedures, and safety protocols.Respond promptly and professionally to client requests, complaints, inquiries, behavioral concerns, and crisis situations.Utilize positive behavioral management techniques, including verbal de-escalation and redirection.Support residents in problem-solving, personal growth, and progress toward stable housing.Consult with supervisors regarding resident needs, behaviors, incidents, and service concerns.Conduct client intake and orientation procedures, including assigning beds and lockers and issuing linens and personal supplies.Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including daily logs, incident reports, summary sheets, and program records.Identify, document, and report serious incidents in accordance with organizational procedures.Maintain cleanliness and safety of the facility through regular inspections, hyper-sanitization, trash removal, spill cleanup, and shelter maintenance activities.Teach and reinforce appropriate personal hygiene and community living skills.Assist with shelter setup, organization of supplies, and facility operational needs.Receive, verify, and document vendor deliveries and inventory using tally sheets and related records.Post, update, and maintain informational signage, schedules, and service calendars.Set up, monitor, and maintain audio or related program equipment as needed.Provide guidance, direction, and support to volunteers and staff to ensure efficient shelter operations.Conduct neighborhood patrols to minimize disruptions and maintain positive community relations.Deliver exceptional customer service by prioritizing the needs of children, families, Veterans, and clients in alignment with the organization's mission.Gain and maintain working knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and program standards.Assist with guest services, program activities, administrative tasks, reporting requirements, and other duties as assigned by supervisors.Perform other duties as directed and assigned.Demonstrate exceptional customer service, in everything you do, by placing the child, family, Veteran or client first to support our mission to "Empower people to build better lives for themselves, their families, and their communities."Essential Qualifications:EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required.EXPERIENCE: 2+ years' experience working with low-income/at-risk/homeless individuals or vulnerable populations, strongly preferred.ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.LICENSES: Driver's License with a clear record.VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
