Position Description

The equipment operator may operate several types of power construction equipment such as loaders, hydraulic excavators, dozers, tractors, skid steers, scrapers, and motor graders.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Operates construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, or grade tractors.
• Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.
• Uses equipment to prepare building sites for exterior site concrete such as parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, and loading docks.
• Operates machinery used to build bridges, roads, and railroads.
• Inspects and fuels vehicle prior to beginning shift.
• Performs routine maintenance and repairs,
  such as cleaning, greasing, and oiling machines.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
• Excellent mechanical skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Heavy focus on safety and teamwork is mandatory.
• Judge distances and slopes accurately, make decisions based on verifiable standards.
• Must be drug free, as operators are subject to random DOT drug testing.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• On-the-job training offered.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery with the ability to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
• Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
