Construction Project Manager - Hospitals

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Construction Project Manager to assist in the planning, coordination, execution, financial management, and successful delivery of healthcare construction projects throughout Texas. This position is responsible for managing projects from preconstruction through final closeout while ensuring safety, quality, schedule adherence, budget performance, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction.

The Project Manager will serve as the primary leader responsible for coordinating owners, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams. This individual must possess a comprehensive understanding of all phases of commercial construction and demonstrate significant experience managing complex healthcare construction projects from ground-up construction through final commissioning and turnover.

The ideal candidate has direct experience constructing hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, surgical suites, emergency departments, inpatient care facilities, imaging departments, and other healthcare facilities requiring advanced building systems, healthcare code compliance, and sophisticated MEP coordination.

This position requires regular travel to project sites and frequent presence at our client’s location in Weatherford, Texas.

Essential Responsibilities

Preconstruction & Project Planning

• Participate in budgeting, estimating, value engineering, and project planning activities.
• Review plans, specifications, and contract documents for completeness, constructability, coordination, and risk mitigation.
• Develop project schedules, milestone plans, and procurement strategies.
• Assist with subcontractor prequalification, bidding, and selection processes.
• Coordinate permitting, governmental approvals, healthcare regulatory requirements, and owner-specific standards.
• Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies before construction begins.

Project Leadership & Management

• Manage multiple healthcare construction projects simultaneously.
• Provide leadership and accountability to project teams, superintendents, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Lead project kickoff meetings and ongoing coordination meetings with owners, architects, engineers, and consultants.
• Maintain overall responsibility for project performance, execution, and client satisfaction.
• Monitor project budgets, forecasts, cash flow, profitability, and financial performance.
• Review and approve subcontractor invoices, change orders, purchase orders, and vendor commitments.
• Prepare and approve owner pay applications, monthly financial reports, and executive project updates.
• Identify and resolve project issues before they impact schedule, budget, safety, or quality.

Scheduling & Coordination

• Develop and maintain detailed project schedules utilizing industry-standard scheduling software.
• Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, consultants, inspectors, and internal project personnel.
• Monitor critical path activities and proactively address scheduling conflicts.
• Manage procurement and tracking of long-lead materials and equipment.
• Develop and implement recovery plans when schedule delays occur.
• Coordinate critical utility installations, equipment deliveries, commissioning activities, and owner turnover milestones.

Client Relations & Business Development

• Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, development groups, healthcare systems, and design teams.
• Maintain strong communication with leadership and project stakeholders.
• Conduct regular owner meetings and provide accurate project status updates.
• Develop long-term client relationships that generate repeat business opportunities.
• Represent our client with professionalism and integrity in all interactions.

Quality Control & Project Closeout

• Ensure all work complies with contract documents, healthcare standards, regulatory requirements, and quality expectations.
• Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, and certification activities.
• Oversee punch list completion and project closeout processes.
• Ensure timely delivery of as-built drawings, operations manuals, training documentation, warranties, and turnover packages.
• Maintain accountability for project completion and owner satisfaction.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Promote and enforce safety culture.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety plans.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare construction safety requirements, project-specific quality standards, and applicable healthcare facility regulations.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and healthcare regulatory standards.
• Maintain awareness of changing healthcare construction regulations and industry best practices.

Documentation & Administrative Management

• Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, project correspondence, and contract documentation.
• Review and approve invoices, budget commitments, and project expenditures.
• Manage company credit card expenditures and purchasing approvals.
• Maintain accurate project records within Procore and company management systems.
• Prepare monthly project status reports and executive-level reporting packages.
• Ensure all project documentation remains current, complete, and audit-ready.

Required Qualifications

Experience

·        Minimum 10 years of commercial construction project management experience.

·        Minimum 5 years of direct healthcare or hospital construction experience.

·        Proven experience managing projects ranging from $10 million to $100 million+.

·        Demonstrated success leading complex healthcare construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.

·        Experience with ground-up hospital, surgical center, or major healthcare facility construction strongly preferred.

Specialized Knowledge

The Project Manager must possess a working knowledge of:

• NFPA 99 Health Care Facilities Code
• NFPA 101 Life Safety Code
• Medical gas installation and certification requirements
• Hospital commissioning and turnover procedures
• Healthcare permitting and regulatory compliance
• Healthcare MEP systems and infrastructure
