PATROL OFFICER I

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Patrol Officer I in our Police Department.
Responsibilities:
- Responds to various types of calls including house checks, fire calls, alarms, armed robberies, prisoner transports, weapon accidents, traffic control, abandoned vehicles, vehicle violators, school crossings, hazardous materials checks, noise complaints, murders, attempted murders, shoplifting, fraud, missing persons, nuisance calls, deceit incidents, drunks, malicious damage, missing persons, telephone incidents, sexual offenses, burglaries, assaults, death, etc.
- Patrols assigned areas which involves driving patrol vehicle, investigating suspicious situations, serving traffic tickets, assisting the public, surveying areas for crimes, and responding to any calls.
- Handles community policing which involves setting up meetings with businesses, performing security checks, working on crime prevention, and directing the public to organizations such as Department of Social Services, Meals on Wheels, counseling, etc.
- Identifies, pursues, and arrests suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts.
- Provides for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations.
- Records facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities.
- Reviews facts of incidents to determine if criminal act or statute violations were involved.
- Investigates illegal or suspicious activities.
- Monitors, notes, reports, and investigates suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol area.
- Testifies in court to present evidence or act as witness in traffic and criminal cases.
- Relays complaint and emergency-request information to appropriate agency dispatchers.
- Monitors traffic to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and exhibit safe driving procedures.
- Drives vehicles or patrols specific areas to detect law violators, issue citations, and make arrests.
- Executes arrest warrants, locating and taking persons into custody.
- Patrols and guards or assigned areas to provide security, enforce laws, maintain order, and arrest violators for the municipal court.
- Photographs or draws diagrams of crime or accident scenes and interviews principals and eyewitnesses.
- Evaluates complaint and emergency-request information to determine response requirements.
- Patrols specific area on foot, bicycle, or motorized conveyance, responding promptly to calls for assistance.
- Investigates traffic accidents and other accidents to determine causes and to determine if a crime has been committed.
- Verifies that the proper legal charges have been made against law offenders.
- Transports or escorts prisoners and defendants in route to courtrooms, prisons or jails, attorneys' offices, or medical facilities.
- Directs traffic flow and reroute traffic in case of emergencies.
- Questions individuals entering secured areas to determine their business, directing and rerouting individuals as necessary.
- Places people in protective custody.
- Serves subpoenas, summonses, jury summonses, and other court orders.
- Informs citizens of community services and recommends options to facilitate longer-term problem resolution.
- Provides road information to assist motorists.
- Conducts community programs for all ages concerning topics such as drugs and violence.
- Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits a variety of reports and records including codes, traffic tickets, accident reports, warrants, surveys, subpoenas, waivers of rights, evidence forms, missing person's reports, juvenile referral forms, timesheets, case file sheets, criminal history requests, court releases, laboratory analyses, various lists and logs, and general office correspondence.
- Refers to policy and procedure manuals, data, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts, statutes, directories, maps, etc.
- Utilizes various types of equipment and machinery such as patrol car, bicycle, radar, multi-channel radio, copier, telephone, computer, firearms, various police supplies and equipment, and general office supplies.
- Performs work in DataMaster.
- Performs related work as required.
- Performs general administrative tasks as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, filing records, and answering phones.
- Participates in required training and continuing education to obtain and maintain certifications and stay current on changes in codes and ordinances.
- Assists other officers and staff when workload, emergencies, or special assignments require.
- Stays current on departmental policies, procedures, and processes.
- Completes work accurately, safely, and efficiently; maintains assigned equipment in good working condition.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Identifies and reports suggested improvements or areas of concern to the Supervisor.
- Ensures professionalism and excellent customer service in all interactions while representing the City of Greer.
- Demonstrates strong ethical conduct, integrity, and accountability with coworkers, customers, and the community.
- Supports a culture of results, communication, and professional collaboration within the department and across the organization.
- Represents the department at community events or meetings when requested by the Supervisor.
- Adheres to the Employee Handbook and all applicable policies and procedures.
- Maintains regular, reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Applicants who are current class one (1) certified officers from South Carolina may be pulled outside of this schedule for an interview at the police department's discretion Hiring Process: Initial application, written and physical abilities testing, interview board, initial background investigation, review of personal history questionnaire, polygraph, meeting with the Chief of Police, conditional offer of employment by Human Resources, psychological and medical evaluation, final offer of employment.
