\n Position Summary \n
\n This Medical Interpreter provides oral and written translation services for non‑English speaking patients and families throughout the Hospital. The team is seeking a passionate Medical Interpreter for the Portuguese and Cape Verde languages. This position will be primarily located at our Boston location.\n

Key Responsibilities \n

\n
• Provide in-person and video interpreting for patients and families with limited English proficiency during interactions with care providers and hospital staff.
\n
• Sight translates medical forms and instructions in the presence of the provider, following departmental protocols.
\n
• Bridge cultural gaps by recognizing and facilitating communication around cultural differences between families and healthcare providers.
\n
• Offer general, non-technical information to help patients navigate the healthcare system and assists with scheduling appointments and translating hospital literature as needed.
\n
• Apply critical thinking, communication, and linguistic skills to support patient care, drawing on both formal training and real-world experience.
\n
• Maintain professional competency through self-study, conferences, and continuing education, while abiding by the professional code of ethics and standards of practice.
\n
• Comply with hospital policies and administrative requirements, including accurate participation in data collection processes.
\n

Minimum Qualifications
\n Education: \n

\n
• A High School diploma/ GED is required.
\n

Experience: \n

\n
• 1-2 years of relevant interpreting experience is required.
\n
• Written and verbal fluency in English, Portuguese and Cape Verde is required.
\n
• The ability to interpret in person at our Boston location.
\n

Licensure/Certifications: \n

\n
• Completion of a Medical Interpreter Training Course is required (typically a 60+ hour course).
\n
• A National Certification in Medical Interpreting is preferred.
\n

Schedule: Full time hours Mon-Fri. Certain days may include late shifts from roughly 9:30am-6pm. Exact hours may vary. \n \n \n

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
