Assistant Counsel

The National Football League is seeking a transactional attorney who will be responsible for supporting a broad range of media-related transactions and related advisory work. This is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic in-house legal team that supports the NFL’s media business units and content licensing strategy. Strong candidates will possess an understanding of distribution and licensing models, especially in the context of digital media and emerging technology, and will have experience reviewing, structuring, and drafting content-related agreements. Responsibilities Structure, draft and negotiate content licenses and distribution agreements with traditional and emerging platforms, with a meaningful focus on digital media – including social media platforms, video syndication partners, content platforms and device manufacturers and other digital outlets Structure, draft and negotiate agreements in connection with the production of short‑form content with digital partners and app distribution agreements Support the NFL’s direct‑to‑consumer products and initiatives, including assisting with drafting promotional and co‑marketing agreements, reviewing creative materials, and regularly auditing relevant policies (e.g., terms and conditions, FAQs, “how to” tutorials) Deliver ongoing analysis and day‑to‑day legal advice in connection with a wide variety of media‑related agreements as well as strategic and operational issues Support senior attorneys and other executives in connection with contract negotiations and meetings with League partners and NFL internal stakeholders Provide legal/business affairs support as needed for other NFL projects and initiatives Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4‑year university/college and a J.D. from an accredited law school 3+ years of experience in a transactional legal role at a top‑tier law firm or in‑house at a media/entertainment/technology company Strong drafting experience in the media/content/technology space Established proficiency with complex agreements and familiarity with distribution, licensing and direct‑to‑consumer models Valid membership in good standing in the New York state bar Other Key Attributes / Characteristics Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to manage diverse projects simultaneously with multiple stakeholders Highly organized and efficient with strong attention to detail Comfortable in a fast‑paced, high‑volume workplace environment Ability to support multiple client groups concurrently Proven success tackling new challenges and collaborating with others Working knowledge and meaningful interest in media trends and technology Passion for the media industry and sports/entertainment Terms / Expected Hours of Work Occasional travel may be required Employees are required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in the office This role may require additional hours as needed (late nights, weekends) Salary / Pay Range The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
