AIRPORT POLICE OFFICER 3225 (Revised 08/06/25)

Annual Salary $87,257 - $120,832 Salary range applies to Airport Police Officer I & II. Current starting salary may change. Confirm starting salary with hiring department before accepting a job offer. Responsibilities An Airport Police Officer is a sworn peace officer, authorized to carry a firearm. Enforces federal and state regulations, City of Los Angeles ordinances, and security, traffic, and safety rules. Engages in law enforcement activities including uniformed foot, vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle patrol and plainclothes assignments, arrest, and report writing. Provides information to the public regarding locations and operations of the Department. Qualifications At least 20 years of age at the time of application and 21 years of age by police academy graduation. Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D., or equivalent. A two- or four-year college degree from an accredited institution may substitute for the high school requirement. Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Valid Class C driver's license issued by the California DMV. Additional Job Information Background investigation requires completion of a Personal History Statement, fingerprinting, background interview, and checks of employment, police, financial, education, and military records. Findings valid for 12 months. Physical fitness qualifier (PFQ) score advisory; must complete PFQ at least once prior to medical evaluation. Score valid for 12 months. Medical evaluation includes thorough evaluation by a City physician and a psychological evaluation. Results valid up to 12 months. Vision requirements: uncorrected distance vision no larger than 20/70, best eye at least 20/40; corrected vision 20/30 with glasses; contact lenses 20/30; LASIK 20/30. Pre-employment substance screening may be required. Certification and Appointment Must successfully complete all required steps. Academy training: six-month, 40-hour per week training program with full pay. Assignments Employees receive regular appointments to Airport Police Officer class and begin an eighteen-month probationary period, during which training includes a basic police recruit school approved by POST, Field Training Program, and other required training.
