Material Handler

Job Title: Material Handler - 1st or 3rd - 19/hr

Job Description

The Material Handler works in a manufacturing environment to safely move, stage, and feed materials to production lines. This role operates forklifts and overhead cranes to handle large metal parts, supports general labor tasks throughout the facility, and ensures materials are available where and when they are needed to keep operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Feed production lines with raw materials and components in a manufacturing setting to support continuous operations.
• Operate overhead cranes to move and position large metal parts safely and efficiently.
• Operate forklifts and fork trucks to transport materials, pallets, and steel products throughout the facility.
• Handle large metal parts and steel materials, ensuring safe lifting and movement using the appropriate equipment.
• Lift materials by hand when required, including lifting up to 75 pounds unassisted while following safe lifting practices.
• Use tape measures and basic measuring tools to verify material dimensions and ensure correct sizing for production.
• Assist with general labor tasks such as loading and unloading materials, staging products, and organizing work areas.
• Support saw operations, including working around bandsaws and other cutting equipment as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with facility safety standards.
• Assist in other areas of the facility as needed to support production and material handling activities.

Essential Skills

• Proven forklift experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Material handling experience, preferably within a manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working with large metal parts and steel materials.
• Ability to safely lift up to 75 pounds unassisted.
• Experience using an overhead crane or willingness to learn with proper training.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
• General labor experience in a production or warehouse environment.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks, including assisting in different areas of the facility as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a steel environment is preferred.
• Experience as a saw operator or experience working with bandsaws or similar cutting equipment is a plus.
• Previous experience handling steel or heavy materials in a production setting.
• Strong attention to safety and adherence to established procedures.
• Ability to work effectively on different shifts, including first and third shifts.
• Reliability and consistency in attendance and performance.

Work Environment

The role is based in a mid-size steel manufacturing facility that operates multiple shifts. There are openings on first and third shifts, with schedules following a 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. style rotation, depending on assignment. Overtime may be required, typically by adding two hours to a shift to create 10-hour workdays, with at least 24 hours’ notice provided when overtime is scheduled. The environment involves working around steel materials, forklifts, overhead cranes, and production equipment such as saws and bandsaws. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe shoes, and long shirts or sleeves. The company provides gloves, arm sleeves, and a hard hat to support a safe and compliant work setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Garrett, IN.

The pay range for this position is $39520.00 - $39520.00/yr.
