Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Telemetry Registered Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care to patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, particularly focusing on cardiac telemetry and stroke patients.

Shift Information

• Shift: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule (Fridays and Saturdays for nights, Saturdays and Sundays for days)
• Holiday Requirements: Minimum of 1 major and 1 minor holiday

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Total Beds: 32 private beds
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4 for telemetry patients; 1:5 for MedSurg patients; mixed team ratio remains 1:4
• Common Diagnoses: Acute and chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry patients, stroke patients, COVID patients, forensic patients, and potential post-operative patients

Qualifications

• Education: Associate Degree or higher in Nursing
• Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a telemetry/med-surg setting
• Required Certifications:
  
  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - AHA or APEX
• Preferred Skills: Cerner experience is a plus

Responsibilities

The Telemetry Registered Nurse will be responsible for:

• Monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms
• Administering medications and managing set-rate drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin)
• Collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care
• Participating in daily shift huddles to discuss patient care and unit activities
• Upholding evidence-based practices, including bedside shift report and intentional hourly rounding
• Providing patient education regarding medications and their potential side effects

Work Environment

This is a fast-paced unit with many admissions and high acuity patients. We pride ourselves on maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere while prioritizing patient safety at all times. Attendance and punctuality are crucial, and any issues that compromise patient safety will not be tolerated.

Additional Notes

Unit orientation will include 1-2 shifts with a preceptor to ensure a smooth transition into the role. A house supervisor will be present 24/7, with nurse managers available during normal business hours. Nurses may float to other units, such as Medical Surgical or Intensive Care, based on patient needs.
