About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Minimum of 2 years of experience - Cerner experience preferred Description: The unit consists of 32 beds, all private. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4 for telemetry patients and 1:5 for MedSurg patients. If a mixed team of MedSurg and telemetry patients is present, the ratio remains 1:4. The required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Common diagnoses include acute and chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry patients, stroke patients, non-titratable drips, COVID patients, forensic patients, and potential post-operative care. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common drips used include set rate Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin. RNs must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms. There is a house supervisor on site 24/7, and a nurse manager is available during normal business hours. Each shift has a nurse shift manager, charge nurse, and break nurse. The unit has Certified Nursing Assistants based on census. Equipment used includes CPAP or BiPAP as per respiratory therapy and medical orders, but no vents are present. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, with morning and night huddles occurring at 0700 and 1900. Weekend requirements include four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule, with specific assignments for nights and days. Holiday requirements consist of a minimum of one major holiday and one minor holiday. There is no call requirement, but staff can be placed on standby for low census with a 30-minute response time if called in. Travelers are the first to float and can be assigned to various units as needed. Dress code requires navy blue scrubs, with specific guidelines for undershirts and jackets. This is a fast-paced unit with many admissions and high acuity. Staff must uphold evidence-based practices, including bedside shift reporting, intentional hourly rounding, and medication teaching, including side effects. Strict attendance policies are enforced, and tardiness will not be tolerated. Any issues compromising patient safety will not be tolerated.
