About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS Must-Have: Must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms. Description: Unit has 31 beds, including 11 private and 10 semi-private. Ratios are 1 to 4. Charge Nurse is the Shift Manager, supported by a Resource Nurse. Nurse Aides available: 2 on days and 1 on nights. Weekend requirement: 4 shifts out of every 4-week schedule. Weekend shifts for nights are Friday and Saturday, and Saturday and Sunday for days. Travelers are expected to work into the permanent staff holiday rotation (1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday). Scrub color is navy blue, including any undershirt or jacket. Tele monitoring equipment is Phillips. Ventilation support includes CPAP or BiPAP provided by Respiratory Therapy. Clientists or intensivists are in-house, with on-call support after hours. Pharmacy is available 24/7, and an Omnicell system is in place. Shifts are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with block scheduling allowed if unit needs are met, but not guaranteed. Travelers are the first to float and may float between medical surgical and telemetry units. Possible float to med-surg remote telemetry, med-surg, and some ICU for telemetry medical surgical holds, or ER holds. Floor specific orientation will include 1-2 shifts with a preceptor. Common diagnoses and patient types include post pacemaker, hemodialysis, new onset atrial fibrillation and rapid ventricular response. Stepdown from ICU and surgical patients are cared for, along with urology patients and oncology patients with cardiac monitoring needs. Rare orthopedic patients, some correctional patients, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, high acuity cases, and heavier patients are also admitted. Approximately one-third of patients are from nursing homes and may have complications such as bedsores, PEG tubes, and sepsis. Cancellation policy allows for the possibility of cancellation of up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment. Charting system in use is Cerner. BSN degree is not required. Trauma level and care setting are acute. Division is Nursing. Shifts are days, with every other weekend requirement and first to float designation.
