STAFF ACCOUNTANT

A rapidly growing biotechnology company in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its collaborative Finance team. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, resourceful, and possesses strong technical accounting skills. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this hands‑on role partners with multiple departments across the organization and offers exposure to a variety of accounting functions. Responsibilities Partner with cross‑functional departments to ensure accurate accounting for purchases, expenses, and month‑end accruals. Prepare and analyze account reconciliations as part of the monthly financial close process. Manage the monthly accrual process by working closely with department leaders and budget owners. Interact with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve accounting‑related questions and discrepancies. Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP. Compile financial reports and supporting schedules for management. Review contracts, vendor agreements, and other financial documents for accounting implications. Assist with documenting and maintaining internal controls and accounting policies. Support SOX compliance activities, external financial statement audits, and tax audits as needed. Participate in accounting system implementations, upgrades, and user acceptance testing. Assist with special projects, financial analyses, and ad hoc reporting as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. One or more years of accounting experience, preferably in biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare, or a public accounting environment. Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, and collaborative environment while remaining flexible and detail-oriented. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP/accounting systems (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar) is preferred.
