Location: 401 South Main Street, STE 101, Rockford, IL 61101-1321, United States Base Pay: $17.00 / Hour Job Category: Seasonal, Aquatics Employee Type: Seasonal Title Lifeguard Department Aquatics Status Seasonal Work Location Alpine Pool, Harkins Pool, Sand Park Pool (may be required to work at all multiple locations) Reports To Lifeguard Supervisors & Facility Managers Wage $17/hour Job Description Perform lifeguard duties, supervision and constant surveillance of swimmers and guests during all facility hours and special events. Responsibilities Perform lifeguard duties, supervision and constant surveillance of swimmers and guests during all facility hours and special events. Enforce rules and regulations and render appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary while educating and informing patrons of the purpose and need for rules and regulations. Advise lifeguard supervisor/facility managers of unsafe and unsanitary conditions and prevent, anticipate, and respond to aquatic incidents. Have knowledge of facility emergency procedures. Handle a large volume of people. Participate in the organization and implementation of daily and special aquatic activities. Assist guests in a polite and expedient manner. Perform daily routine chores, maintenance and clean-up of the facility to ensure neat and orderly appearance. Communicate daily with guests on a one-to-one basis in a professional, courteous manner, and be familiar with the District's Quality Assurance Statement. Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times. Work unusual hours, including late nights, weekends and all holidays in a fast paced atmosphere. Ability to perform on-going in-service training as required by the manager/supervisor. This may include but is not limited to real life scenarios, fitness training, and daily vigilance awareness training (VAT). Be able to demonstrate skills to a test-ready level. Assist other departments on an as-needed basis. May be asked to rotate to other facilities (Sand Park Pool, Alpine Pool, Harkins Pool). Be responsible for conducting oneself in a safe and proper manner and adhering to all safety guidelines, policies and procedures that have been implemented by the Aquatics Department and the Rockford Park District. Provide initial emergency care until qualified medical personnel can take over. Perform CPR/First aid and in-water rescues. Ensure the safety of all guests. Prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous situations. Perform all other duties as assigned. Requirements Education/Experience Must be willing and able to receive certification in First Aid, CPR, AED & Ellis and Associates Lifeguard (all lifeguards are trained by the Rockford Park District - Employees will have 3-5 months once hired to obtain this certification) Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be able to work a minimum of 32 hours per week. Must be willing to work unusual hours, weeknights, weekends, and holidays. Good oral communication skills. Must be able to verbally communicate one-on-one and in groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other district employees. Good interpersonal skills which include working effectively as a team player. Ability to provide customers with expert care, sensitive consideration, and efficient service. Ability to document information completely. Strong work ethic required. Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED & Ellis and Associates Lifeguard (all lifeguards are trained by the Rockford Park District - you will have 3-5 months once hired to obtain this certification). Physical Requirements Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally (with help) Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally Exerting in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently Must be able to swim and be comfortable in water. Able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time. Far, near, and mid-range vision. Must be able to perform moderately physically intensive tasks, potentially including any combination of the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
