Overview The Emergency Medical Technician performs and documents direct routine patient care under licensed provider's supervision according to hospitals guidelines. Responsibilities 1. Knowledge of patient care and basic human needs within life span. 2. Knowledge of medical terminology 3. Knowledge of aseptic techniques 4. Knowledge of acute and chronic disease processes 5. Knowledge of standard universal precautions 6. Basic knowledge of anatomic structure and human body systems 7. Ability to recognize obvious job-related emergencies 8. Ability to maintain confidentiality 9. Ability to read and write in English 10. Recognition of lethal EKG rhythms 11. Performance of electrocardiograms 12. IV insertion 13. Urinary catheter insertion 14. Gastric tube insertion 15. Phlebotomy 16. Basic wound care 17. Splinting of musculoskeletal injuries 18. Automatic External Defibrillator operation 19. Required Education:High School Diploma or GED or Vocational Training Required Licensure/Certifications: Current Florida EMT license -OR- current Florida Paramedic license BLS from the American Heart Association Required Experience:Less than 1 of practical clinical experience.
