Department: Advocate Lutheran General Hospital - Interventional Radiology Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details: 40 hours per week (5 x 8 hr, or 4 x 10 hr), on call per department needs (5-6 call shifts per month) Pay Range: $38.20 - $57.30 Major Responsibilities Produces radiographs of technical quality to demonstrate the peripheral, viscera, and neurovascular system, with occasional non-vascular work in the Special Procedure Laboratory. Selects, implements, and modifies exam technical factors to produce diagnostic radiographs, utilizing knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiographic technology. Demonstrates technical skill as a scrub technologist. Performs technical functions pertaining to equipment, tray preparation, and contrast media. Demonstrates skills in operating equipment. Performs scout film. Sets up, programs, and operates film changer. Sets up, programs, and operates digital imaging computer. Provides a clean procedure environment to ensure aseptic procedures. Assists credentialed radiologists in imaging and revascularization procedures. Works with credentialed radiologists in angiography and revascularization procedures; uses proper procedural supplies to maintain successful revascularization. Provides technical support to credentialed angiographers in implementation of vanguard technologies (atherectomy, stent placement, new devices). Understands atherosclerotic disease process and conveys understanding to other caregivers as required; uses knowledge to enhance technical performance. Understands bleeding factors and risks arising from treatment with angioplasty, atherectomy, or thrombolytic agents, and conveys understanding to other caregivers as required; uses knowledge to enhance technical performance. Prepares equipment, tray preparation, and contrast media for ordered exams. Selects and opens supplies to ensure prompt patient care and cost containment. Aids in inventory management of the area, using knowledge of on-site inventory and availability lags of necessary supply items. Assists in the development and maintenance of laboratory records to assure quality of care. Verifies appropriateness of patient exam, completeness of consent forms, presence of lab results. Places, processes, and completes requisitions. Records patient data accurately using RIS/HIS System. Cooperates as a team player with nursing unit staff, allied health professionals, and physicians, promoting efficiency and quality. Functions in patient emergencies in a competent manner; assists Code Team as needed. Assists in scheduling patients with interface of nursing unit personnel and angiographers. Instructs patients and alleviates fears regarding exams; works with team to provide optimal patient experience. Assists in performance of daily quality control testing of equipment, verifies function at time of testing, reports problems to Coordinator. Provides personal flexibility to patient needs, offering procedure support and timely on-call response. Education and Experience Required Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology. ARRT Registration. Knowledge of sterile technique. Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups; prior experience with various age groups preferred. 1 hour annually in stroke care. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Proficient in operation of basic angiographic equipment. Basic computer skills preferred. ARRT Registry. CPR Certification. IDNS License. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Able to respond to request to work on short notice. Flexible in starting times to meet demand. Willing to work overtime as requested. Pregnancy precludes fluoroscopic work with patients. Must effectively communicate and work well with other staff. Advanced knowledge of anatomy, radiographic equipment, vascular and interventional procedures. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, patient handling equipment is expected to be used with at least one other associate when available.
