Nurse Consultant (Acute/Home Care Section)

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest state agencies. As a Nurse Consultant I in the Acute and Home Care Licensure and Certification Section, the primary responsibility is to conduct licensure and/or certification onsite surveys or in‑office reviews of documentation to ascertain compliance with State and Federal regulations for Home Care, Home Health, and Hospice agencies. Job Responsibilities Perform on‑site standard and/or complaint surveys to ensure compliance with State Licensure and Federal Regulations relative to the programs surveyed. Use findings from on‑site surveys (observations, record reviews, interviews) to prepare deficiency reports documenting providers’ non‑compliance. Review Plans of Correction submitted by providers in response to cited deficiencies. Provide clarification and information on the licensure and certification process to the public, providers and prospective providers. Intake complaints and concerns from the public for investigation. Respond to written requests for information from the public, providers and other agencies. Meet with interest groups such as health care associations, civic clubs and professional organizations to discuss licensure, certification, and inspection goals. Perform Home‑based duties within the Central/Eastern region of North Carolina; frequent travel, sometimes on short notice, within assigned counties and statewide, including occasional overnight stays. A state vehicle will be provided when available; personal vehicle mileage may be compensated. Qualifications Registered Nurse license in the State of North Carolina. One year of experience in the area of specialization. Strong clinical background, including assessment, care planning, and delivery of care. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to compose technical reports with good grammar. Ability to gather and analyze data for decision making. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle.
