This position involves delivering comprehensive preventive dental care, including cleaning teeth, applying sealants, and educating children and their caregivers on proper oral hygiene practices. The hygienist will work closely with dentists and other dental professionals to develop individualized care plans that address each child's unique needs. Ensuring a comfortable and positive experience for young patients is essential, requiring patience and excellent communication skills. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the overall health and well-being of the community by preventing dental diseases and fostering lifelong healthy habits in children. Minimum Qualifications Current and valid Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license in the state of New York. Completion of an accredited dental hygiene program. CPR certification. Strong knowledge of dental hygiene practices, infection control, and safety protocols. Preferred Qualifications Experience in pediatric dentistry or working with special needs children. Additional certifications such as Local Anesthesia or Nitrous Oxide administration. Familiarity with electronic dental records (EDR) systems. Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on child-friendly communication. Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, to better serve diverse patient populations. Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings and prophylaxis on pediatric patients, including scaling and polishing teeth. Apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants to prevent tooth decay in children. Conduct oral health assessments and document patient histories accurately. Educate patients and their families on effective oral hygiene techniques and dietary recommendations. Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures as needed, ensuring patient comfort and safety. Maintain sterilization and infection control protocols in compliance with regulatory standards. Manage patient records and schedule follow-up appointments to support continuity of care. Participate in community outreach programs to promote pediatric oral health awareness. Skills The Registered Dental Hygienist utilizes clinical skills daily to perform dental cleanings, apply preventive treatments, and conduct oral health assessments, ensuring high standards of patient care. Communication skills are essential for educating children and their families in an engaging and understandable manner, fostering trust and cooperation. Organizational skills are applied in managing patient records, scheduling, and maintaining compliance with health regulations. Technical proficiency with dental instruments and sterilization equipment ensures safety and efficiency in the clinical environment. Preferred skills such as bilingual communication and experience with electronic dental records enhance the ability to provide personalized care and streamline workflow within the practice.
