WE ARE HIRING FOR PHLEBOTOMIST II Job Title: Phlebotomist II Job Description This Phlebotomist II role focuses on performing high-quality blood draws and specimen collection while also handling specimen processing, troubleshooting, training support, and workflow improvement. You will work independently across multiple clinic locations, providing compassionate patient care from pediatric to geriatric populations and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory specimen handling. Responsibilities * Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, including pediatric through geriatric patients, and complete heel sticks on babies as required. * Collect and store blood and other specimens, such as urine or fecal samples, according to established procedures and test requirements. * Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture, blood draw, and other specimen collection procedures to patients to ensure understanding and comfort. * Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all information is accurate and complete. * Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders to maintain specimen integrity. * Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against provider orders to ensure 100% accuracy before processing. * Package specimens for transport and follow all required protocols to maintain proper temperature and integrity during storage and transit. * Store specimen samples at appropriate temperatures and place them in the correct collection containers or tubes as specified by protocols. * Accurately label specimens and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols necessary for transport and testing. * Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and regulatory requirements. * Attend and complete annual department trainings to stay current with procedures, safety standards, and regulatory updates. * Answer telephone calls professionally and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries when appropriate and within scope. * Assist with troubleshooting issues related to specimen collection and processing and make recommendations to improve workflow. * Support training activities by demonstrating proper phlebotomy techniques and specimen handling procedures when needed. * Update patient information accurately in relevant systems or documentation to support proper test processing and reporting. * Record maintenance and decontamination data as required to ensure equipment and work areas remain safe and compliant. * Provide excellent customer service to patients and clinical staff, maintaining a calm, professional, and respectful demeanor. * Manage a workload of approximately 30-40 blood draws per shift while maintaining accuracy, quality, and patient safety. * Travel to assigned clinic sites according to the weekly schedule and arrive prepared to perform both drawing and processing duties. * Work primarily with adult and geriatric patients while also performing pediatric collections as needed. Essential Skills * Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a phlebotomist. * 1-2 years of experience performing pediatric to geriatric blood draws, including heel sticks on babies. * Proficiency with venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles. * Demonstrated ability to perform high-volume blood draws, handling approximately 30-40 draws per shift. * Experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination. * Ability to collect, store, and process specimens according to established laboratory procedures and protocols. * Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues related to specimen collection and processing. * Ability to fully understand and follow physicians' orders and match laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes accurately. * High level of attention to detail and accuracy when labeling, packaging, and storing specimens. * Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients and clinical staff. * Ability to work independently and manage time effectively across multiple clinic locations. * Understanding of and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and relevant safety standards. * High school diploma or GED. * Valid driver's license. * Reliable means of transportation to travel between clinic sites. * Comfort working with adult and geriatric populations, as well as pediatric patients. Additional Skills & Qualifications * Experience processing specimens after drawing, including centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and preparing for transport. * Experience working as a mobile phlebotomist in a variety of clinic settings. * Familiarity with laboratory workflows, including specimen collection, handling, and result communication. * Ability to handle changing schedules and locations while maintaining consistent quality and professionalism. * Strong multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple patients, tasks, and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Work Environment This role is based out of a primary patient service center in downtown Chicago, where initial training will take place during the first two weeks of employment. After training, you will travel regularly to multiple clinic sites in surrounding areas, including Skokie, Harvey, South Holland, Oak Brook, and Naperville. You will work in a variety of clinic settings, performing both blood draws and specimen processing on-site. The position requires reliable transportation, and mileage reimbursement is provided for travel between locations. Schedules are provided one week in advance so you know where to report each day. You must be available Monday through Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., with rotating Saturday shifts typically between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.; when scheduled on a Saturday, you will receive a weekday off. The work environment involves frequent interaction with adult and geriatric patients, as well as pediatric patients, and includes handling biological specimens in accordance with strict safety and regulatory standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Itasca, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
