Assistant Nurse Manager The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a professional, registered nurse who is a skilled communicator, collaborator and authentic leader. The ANM supports the organization in the execution of the nursing strategic plan and priorities. The ANM actively participates in unit and hospital decision‑making and provides meaningful recognition to others. The ANM provides operational and administrative support to Nurse leadership. This position effectively coordinates staffing, supports throughput, quality and safety outcomes, staff competency, hiring, clinical and staff corrective actions, unit efficiency, quality care and other departmental activities to support the mission, vision and values of Hackensack Meridian Health. The ANM, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, assesses, plans, implements, monitors and evaluates nursing practice and the nursing care delivery system with direct supervision of front‑line staff. Responsibilities Leadership and Human Resource Management Participate with recruitment and retention strategies. Assist with unit huddles and leader rounding with employees. Participate with unit goal creation reflective of the hospital goals and the mission and vision of Hackensack Meridian Health. Participate or lead when appropriate: evidenced‑based practice projects or research. Participate or lead when appropriate: unit‑based or hospital based shared governance committees or councils. Resolve conflicts and facilitate constructive resolutions and positive outcomes. Complete employee corrective action plans/counseling as necessary. Adhere to HMH Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior. Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations for assigned staff members. Contribute to or monitor the unit orientation process of all roles as necessary. Participate with and model the importance of employee recognition. Model cultural competence, social justice and fairness, and capitalizes on generational diversity to foster highly effective work groups. Where applicable, escalates nursing labor/management issues. Financial Management Participate in payroll, staff scheduling and daily staffing needs. Assist in the management of the department budget; monitor business intelligence for the unit. Maximize care efficiency and throughput. Understand the relationship between value‑based purchasing, quality outcomes, revenue and reimbursement. Monitor unit staffing productivity and flex staff accordingly. Quality and Safety / Performance Improvement Optimize the patient and family experience of care. Lead multidisciplinary rounds. Ensure unit‑based performance improvement monitoring is completed, trended and reported internally and externally to the unit. Lead or participate with quality improvement projects. Lead or conduct root cause analysis investigations. Assure unit regulatory compliance. Participate in staff education and competency. Serve as a role model to others and mentor new employees and new Charge RNs. General Job Functions Interpret, support, and communicate policies, standards and procedures. Serve as a role model for staff in all aspects of nursing (i.e., professionalism, quality care). Assist in identifying cost containment measures by identifying alternative measures of product utilization within the department. Serve on‑call based on unit requirements. Assume special projects as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by leadership. Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Qualifications Minimum of an associate in Nursing or diploma of Nursing degree. BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire (apply to candidates hired on or after February 2025). Advanced masters degree in nursing programs satisfy the BSN requirement. Minimum 3 years recent nursing experience in respective specialty or equivalent. The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs, strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of patients and their caregivers, exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education and the ability and passion to deliver the highest quality of care based on a strong sense of patient focus. Preferred Qualifications MSN. Supervisory or charge nurse experience. Licenses & Certifications Required NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification. National Certification acceptable to the Magnet Recognition Program and appropriate to current specialty (within two years of hire). Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts. In addition to our compensation for full‑time and part‑time (20+ hours per week) job positions, HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
