Description
JOB DUTIES
- Continually: Construct, install, and test electrical and electronic equipment in accordance with electrical codes.
- Continually: Dismantle, adjust, regulate and repair electrical and electronic equipment.
- Continually: Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, layout conduit run and wiring circuits.
- Frequently: Inspect electrical, electronic, and related mechanical equipment to determine condition and make repairs when needed.
- Frequently: Operate grinders and portable power tools; use hand tools and may operate machine tools.
- Frequently: Lubricate electrical equipment and paint such equipment as required.
- Continually: Specifically maintain electrical and electronic equipment assigned.
- Frequently: Make control and panel board hook-ups.
- Frequently: Dismantle, clean, repair and reassemble motors.
- Frequently: Assist other members of department as required.
- Occasionally: Operate all equipment when needed for maintenance purposes during shift hours.
- Continually: Complete required reports.
- Occasionally: Forecast future electrical and/or electronic problems and deter them through preventive maintenance program.
- Occasionally: Work with outside service engineers as required.
- Continually: Report all equipment deficiencies or malfunctions for maintenance or repair to proper supervision.
- Occasionally: Help load and unload transportation vehicles delivering or picking up parts or material pertinent to maintaining plant equipment or property
- Frequently: Obtain parts, tools and materials from Storeroom and other sources of supply.
- Continually: Perform related duties as directed by supervision.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Punctuality and consistent attendance required.
- Perform work in safe manner, observing all safety rules and regulations pertaining to the job or work area.
- Must be able to think quickly and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Must be able to inspect, test, dismantle, troubleshoot, and make electrical repairs to all types of electrical and electronic equipment including using computers to diagnose problems and make repairs.
- Must have the ability to interpret drawings and sketches.
- Ability to drive company truck (possible manual transmission); drivers license not required.
- Must have the ability to drive the forklift and cranes as needed to do a particular

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sitting: Rarely: sits a maximum of 2 hours per day, in break room or at desk working on computer.
- Standing/Walking: Continually - while performing normal maintenance of equipment and traveling to and from site of repair. Walks approximately 4-5 miles per day. Walking surfaces include gravel, cement, water, mud and uneven ground, asphalt, between piles of scrap pieces. May also stand on hot surfaces of furnace or steel.
- Crouching (bend at knees): Frequently – while performing normal maintenance on equipment and plant machinery. May work at knee, waist or floor levels.
- Stooping: (bend at waist): Frequently – while performing normal maintenance of equipment and plant machinery. Works / stoops at all levels including waist, knee and floor levels. May lean over motor to observe or work on a repair.
- Reaching: Frequently – reaches at shoulder or waist height level. Generally electrical panels are accessible, so positioning on ladder can eliminate overhead reach. Occasional overhead reach is required.
- Twisting/Turning: occasionally – generally has option to twist body or move feet to change position.
- Climbing: frequently – climbing to areas required. Climbs grated steel stair ramps and ladders. Occasionally works from vertical ladders.
- Crawling: Occasionally – may need to crawl to reach lower work area.
- Kneeling: Occasionally – to inspect, and/or work on a particular area.
- Leg/Foot: Occasionally – only for walking and vehicle inspection.
- Handling: frequently – use hand tools, test equipment, electrical wires, electronic drives and controls. May handle spools of wire of 20-30 pounds.
- Fingering/Feeling /Grasping: continually - to use hand tools and equipment for electrical inspection and repair. Fine motor and sensation in hands is required.
- Vehicle Use: Frequently – to operate vehicles, forklifts and cranes; to either get to work station or to work on equipment.
- Pushing/Pulling: occasionally – pushes and pulls electrical cabinet covers. May maneuver weights up to 35 pounds to remove or replace covers.
- Lifting/Carrying: frequently – carries tools, average weight under 20 pounds. May lift up to 50 pounds independently. Lifting over 50 pounds is done ONLY with assistance.
- Balance: Frequently – to climb ladders, and to work above ground level on various equipment and machinery.
USES OF SENSES
- Talking in person/by phone: Continually - must be able to communicate over radio for status of job and instructions.
- Hearing: Continually – to listen for whistles. change in frequency of motors.
- Vision: Continually – must be able to see equipment working on. Color vision required.
- Smell: Continually - to detect fire, gas leaks, electrical over temperature, burning.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED certification.
- Maintain a Journeyman card in compliance with state and local laws.
- Must be able to communicate using have both written and verbal communication skills, read and speak English.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
