Program Coordinator for English/Social Studies (2026-2027 School Year) Starting Date: Jul 13, 2026 Job ID: 5789501 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: Jun 18, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Job Description FLSA Status: Exempt General Definition of Work The Program Coordinator for English and Social Studies provides leadership, support, and oversight for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of English Language Arts and Social Studies programs at the high school level. The coordinator works collaboratively with school administrators, teachers, district personnel, students, families, and community stakeholders to ensure rigorous, standards-based instruction that promotes student achievement, literacy development, critical thinking, and college and career readiness. Essential Functions Provides instructional leadership and support for English and Social Studies curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to analyze student achievement data and develop strategies to improve academic performance. Assists in the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of district and state curriculum standards and instructional initiatives. Facilitates professional learning opportunities designed to strengthen instructional practices and content knowledge. Supports the development and alignment of curriculum guides, pacing documents, instructional resources, and assessments. Coordinates the review, selection, and implementation of instructional materials and digital resources. Monitors compliance with district, state, and federal requirements related to curriculum and assessment. Assists school leadership teams with instructional planning, intervention programs, and continuous improvement efforts. Promotes literacy across content areas and supports interdisciplinary instructional practices. Provides coaching, mentoring, and technical assistance to teachers to enhance instructional effectiveness and student engagement. Collaborates with school and district staff to support academic interventions, enrichment opportunities, and student achievement initiatives. Assists with the planning and administration of state and district assessments. Maintains accurate records, reports, and documentation related to program implementation and effectiveness. Communicates effectively with stakeholders regarding curriculum initiatives, instructional programs, and student achievement goals. Participates in district committees, professional organizations, and other activities that support educational improvement. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or district administration. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of current educational research, instructional best practices, curriculum design, and assessment strategies. Thorough understanding of state academic standards, graduation requirements, and accountability systems. Ability to analyze and interpret student performance data to inform instructional decision-making. Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and community partners. Proficiency in educational technology and data management systems. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a dynamic educational environment. Certification and Experience South Carolina certification in English or Social Studies. Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices. Familiar with educational technology tools. Strong classroom management skills and a growth-oriented mindset. Special Requirements Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation. May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings. Prior to beginning employment, negative TB test results must be provided. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Work requires long periods of standing or walking around the classroom, especially when giving instruction, monitoring students, or using whiteboards/projectors. Requires clear verbal communication and strong listening skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues. May require projecting voice in noisy environments or large classrooms. Use of hands to write on boards, type, handle classroom materials, and operate technology (computers, tablets, projectors). May include lifting or carrying instructional materials, textbooks, or student work (typically up to 20 lbs.). Must be able to read and assess student work, view computer screens, and monitor student behavior visually. Must be able to hear student questions and school announcements. Repetitive actions like typing, grading papers, writing on boards. Often sit for extended periods while planning lessons or grading but also stand or move frequently while teaching. Work is primarily conducted indoors in classrooms, often with limited temperature control in older buildings. Exposure to chalk dust, markers, cleaning supplies, and sometimes poor ventilation. Classrooms can be noisy during group work. Standard school hours, but teachers often work before and after school for planning, grading, meetings, or extracurricular activities. Evening or weekend work is common for lesson prep, grading, parent communication, or professional development. Managing behavior, supporting diverse student needs, and maintaining classroom engagement. Breaks are limited and structured around school schedules (e.g., lunch, prep periods). Constant interaction with students, parents, administrators, and colleagues. Must manage interpersonal dynamics, conflicts, and communications in a professional and respectful way.
