Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in one of the SI facilities serviced by the Office of Facilities Management (FM). The Office of Facilities Management is responsible for all Smithsonian facilities, many of which are designated as historic and all of which are visited by millions of people each year. Learn more about this agency Duties Help The Mason is involved in construction and repair of walls, foundations, partitions and other structures of brick, block, tile, concrete, glass or similar materials. In this position, you will: Construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions other structures or systems of brick, block, tile, concrete, glass, or other similar materials. Line courses, spread mortar and finishes joints to match adjacent structures. Plan elements of the job and chooses materials, tools, and equipment. Install appropriate scaffolding, protective Masonite floor and wall coverings and other specialized applications when required. Maintain and repair all assigned masonry on high, low and related areas of the building. Occasionally works with enameled, glazed, and unglazed ceramic, resilient, or acoustic tiles. Conditions of Employment Physical Requirements: This position requires the physical ability to perform moderately heavy work including lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; work outside in all weather conditions with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen and insects; climb ladders and stairs; and stand and walk for extended periods.
