Principal Data Engineer, Biologics Discovery

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks a Principal Data Engineer for Biologics Discovery to design and deliver AI-ready data products, scientific data models, and integration frameworks. This senior role bridges scientific workflows and enterprise data platforms, ensuring discovery data is trusted, connected, and optimized for analytics and machine learning across three New Jersey and Pennsylvania office locations.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver AI-ready discovery data products supporting machine learning and analytics workflows using agile delivery practices
- Define scalable integration requirements, transformation patterns, and data schemas for discovery data acquisition and harmonization
- Establish and drive adoption of data quality, provenance, lineage, and metadata standards across Biologics Discovery
- Partner with ontology, architecture, and AI teams to ensure discovery data is discoverable and suitable for advanced analytics applications
- Translate scientific and analytical requirements into data product specifications and contracts with stakeholders
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related computational field
- 8+ years data product design and analytics dataset delivery in pharma, biotech, or life sciences
- Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL for data asset development
- Hands-on cloud data platform experience (Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or BigQuery)
- Expertise in scientific data modeling, schemas, and integration patterns
- Knowledge of FAIR data principles and data governance standards
- Experience translating scientific requirements into data product specifications
