Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in various duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Package specimens for transport, ensuring correct storage temperature and labeling.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Ability to work as part of a team.

Work Environment

The position is based in a Patient Service Center (PSC) on Staten Island. The work schedule is from 8 AM to 12 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The role requires working as part of a team and involves 2-4 weeks of training at the start of the role. The candidate will train at the same location where they will work. The position is non-float, and the number of draws required daily depends on patient volume. The work environment caters to patients of all ages.

This is a Contract position based out of staten island, NY.

The pay range for this position is $26.29 - $26.29/hr.
